Not sure abt "a good pay" but Vancouver is supposedly among top 10 places to live in the entire world. I hear it's really gorgeous. Needless to say, cost of living is pretty high too. I'd imagine 80k would be deemed as "a good pay".

I've been there many times. Keep in mind, it is still Pacific Northwest which means lots of rain, cloud and depressing days in a year. However it is beautiful during the few weeks of sunny summer days, lots of outdoor activities. They have some of the highest population of Asian, so the choice of food is absolutely great. The area of Richmond is a food heaven, much better than any of the west coast, even better than the bay area.
However it is expensive. Here is a simple comparison. I could get the motel room in the US for $60 a night; the same room cost me $180 canadian dollar. Food cost a lot as i noticed during my trips, so it was obvious. Keep in mind the exchange rate is almost equal.
Living in the city (as they call it "Van") will be expensive, but Surrey, West Minister and Richmond should be fairly affordable (just my guess). Public transporation is pretty good.
With a engineering job and your spouse working, you guys should be fine.
Be sure to visit Whistler Moutain and Banff National Park. Good Luck

I dont live in Vancouver but have been there many times . I do live in Toronto

I dont think your wife can work . She might have to get work permit As for pay 80+ will be good pay and yes it is very expensive. But if you live in Border side which is 1/2 hr drive from vancouver downtown , you can shop in US. which my cousion does.
