One part of my job is to have good PR. I won’t call myself a social bird but once in a while, doing some Public/Personal Relation is a good exercise. During such actions, I meet different people with different conceptions and ideas. Some of the things people share are very interesting. This is a latest one I heard. Day before yesterday, I was at a fancy restaurant sipping some coffee with a friend of mine from work. She said she has invited another friend of hers for coffee. I said I am cool with it.
After 10 minutes or so, this good looking guy, very well dress comes and hugs my friend. I was like WOW! I won’t lie but his looks impressed me. 5’10 height, lean, good sharp haircut and most important clean guy, I would give me 9 out of 10 in his looks. Now the real conversation starts. He was telling how successful he has been in all his investments and his ventures. He even told me about his very big super duper money bang on project. (I like people who are smart and know how to handle their life).
Over the conversation, he started pulling in people from different walks of life. How he coming from a middle class family had been able to make it this far and big. His father was not a millionaire and how he struggled to get where he is today. Not like some big shot guy’s sons for whom everything is all set and all they have to do is to put his feet in the water. They don’t have to struggle, they don’t have to do anything, the family business is always there. Not only in Nepal, its everywhere in the world.
I was amazed by the audacity of this guy with which he is was demeaning and disrespecting people who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Questions that was popping in my head was, is he jealous of these guys who got it easily? Was he arrogant of his success? Am I mistaken his self esteem with pride?
All I said was, it’s not easy to give up your dreams and be a millionaires son. The first thing you lose is your identity. You will always be called so and so’s son. Ever if you start something of your own, it will always goes and blends with your family business. Your life decision making will be discussed on a board meetings and will be decided on the corporate level. Your relationship will be a page 3 juicy gossip. You cannot go out and be yourself. I have huge respect for you and people who are self made man. But you should respect people and their feelings. It’s not an easy life for them as well.
I think I lost 50% of the respect for him when he demeaned someone. I am not defending anyone. But everyone got their stories of sacrifices and we cannot be judgmental about it just because “My father is a millionaire”.

Ah the so called the bittertruth in everyonen's life when you work and do good! Why is it that we always get tagged along with someone might have done it for you, you couldnt have achieved in on your own dialogue when you actually do something good? I have seen and heard this in so many cases, in Nepal. Just cause i have a millionaire father doesnt mean I get it easy and viceversa. They should know it takes two to clap!! Though some do get it easy, no one has the right to tag everyone else in the same category!!

If he said "They don’t have to struggle, they don’t have to do anything, the family business is always there."

Why do you find that demeaning and disrespectful? What he said is mostly true. They don't have to struggle like people who have to start from scratch. I am sure they have to do some work too but everyone has to work. Things are easier for you when you are fed with a silver spoon.

That does not mean people born with silver spoon cannot go on to create their own empire. If all they do is work for their family business then there is nothing to be proud of.

Well i know how he said it. So i know it was to demean those people. See i am not taking sides all i am saying is this has happened and i think people should respect others lives as well unless it is hurting them.

Respect is a relative word. While, it my serve as big admiration for someone, it might not mean the same to others. Demeaning someone else's life and telling everything is easy if their father is a milliinaire is not a correct way of expressing that. However, money just doesn't grow on trees, so definately people put up for all the sacrifices to become a millionaraire. There are stuffs that they lose as parents, unless obivously you won the lottery. At the end its all justified, where you start and where you want to go.
On a side note, tell him to sing "Started from the bottom, now we here'. it would be awesome.

Oh how insensitive of him! All that while he had been blabbing around a millionaire's daughter.

But Ambrosia, you have narrated the story like you are having butterflies in your belly. You seem to have gotten yourself into a Bollywoodesque hero-heroine conflict which serves as the prelude to a typical courtship. And I say that cause you cared to start a thread dedicated to that rendezvous.

Sounds like the guy is just jealous. People are always jealous of people with more money, bigger houses, faster cars.
