I was in hibernation, until I saw SAP's comment. Hope I won't irritate you guys...:)
First of all, these guys are not nepalese army; they are british army with nepalese nationality.
Considering only janajatis in british/indian army......
British had 9th GR, from the very beginning, reserved for Khas (chhetris, thakuris and khatris); this regiment still exists in Indian army. Other regiments such as 3rd and 8th also had/has many chhetris. Chhetri, thakuri, magar and gurung were first to get recruited by british. After 1947 chai chhetri ko sankhya british army ma ghateko ho; banda bhako haina....
I am not proud of british/ indian army, tesaile don't think I am showing pride...just pointing out facts
hamra chhetri bheda haru aile pani indian army ma tannai chhan....desh ke liye jaan denge saaap bhandai...
Feri sabai nepali haru danthe pani chaina ho.... in gorkha rifles, including indian and british (pre-independence), 8-9 nepalis (at least 5 chhetris) have become generals...
