By the same afternoon, ten teams from India's National Disaster Response Force, totaling 450 personnel and including several search and rescue dogs, had already arrived in Nepal; ten additional Indian Air Force planes soon departed to join them with further aid.^[84] In the immediate aftermath of the quake, India sent 43 tons of relief material, including tents and food.^[85] Prime Minister Modi spoke with Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and assured him of India's support and assistance.^[86] The Indian Army sent a major general to Nepal to oversee the rescue and relief efforts. The Indian Air Force mobilised its Ilyushin Il-76, C-130J Hercules and C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft and Mi-17 helicopters for Operation Maitri. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu later tweeted out that there were arrangements being made to supply 100,000 bottles every day.^[95] Air India reduced fares on flights bound for Kathmandu from Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, and announced that it would also carry relief material on its flights.^[96] By Monday morning, the Indian Air Force had evacuated 1935 Indian citizens from Nepal using 12 aircraft sorties.^[97] Indian Army sources said six of 18 medical teams tasked to help with the relief efforts in Nepal had been deployed. The Indian Army was in the process of sending 10 engineer task forces with machinery to clear roads and debris. The Commission's emergency aid will go towards the most urgent needs in the worst affected areas, including clean water, medicine, emergency shelter and telecommunications. Along with this, the The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated. Through it, Member States, including Belgium, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Sweden immediately offered urgently needed search and rescue teams, water purification systems and technical assistance.^[150]
•  United Nations — UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon asserted that the UN is preparing for a big relief effort. If Nepalese were black, they would have send a lot more, not only that all the Hollywood actors would have come forward to help. George Clooney would have been the first. When there was earthquake in Japan, there was slow response by US. But, for some other countries such as Haiti, they were very quick to response with huge effort and huge amount. I would love to see that whole 1 million dollar utilized, I heard all the aid supply has been halted inside the airport and I heard some merchant are selling blankets and food to those poor for 10X the normal price. Where is that 1 million dollar money when people in need cannot get one.

If nothin else, Hillary tweeted the first day about the disaster. I have always been adamant about black/white issues. They don't care about others. So be careful how much you get involved in supporting black issues. Trust me, black care less about us than white. Right now and for the future, go see how many of these rescue team and volunteers in Nepal that are from America are white and black. Don't have to go that far, set up a donation in your state for Nepal right now, you will see how many black will come forward compare o white. The point was to complain about 1 million dollar donation....the point was to be surprised and disgusted from the " greatest country of the world" to donate equal or lesser than one of the poorest and smallest in the world like Bhutan...

Be the greatest country by action and not by words....

This is not time to complain who is giving what. $1M was for mobilization only, more will be coming ($9M just added). Besides, whatever we get, we should take it with appreciation, not complain about it.

US government gives $132 Million to UNICEF every year. In the same manner US government give millions of dollars to Red Cross, Mercy Corps, Doctors Without Borders and dozens of other organizations. In total US is the number one (1) in the world to donate money and resources to charitable organisations. Total is in Billions.

US believes in helping through trusted and transparent organizations like UNICEF, red Cross Etc. In that way they are confident that the money reaches to the needy; not the government officials. They have learned that.

On top of that it adds more depending on the situation.
