Here is my situation. I am an American citizen, Nepali born who is confused in what career to choose. I am in college right now and am in the point to choose a career path. I enjoy the idea of being a Nurse and helping people. And nurses do make decent money to make a comfortable living as far as i understand. I understand that work can be physically and mentally frustrating but what good job does not right? I also like the IT field and enjoy technology. I honestly think i will be successful if i choose this as my career too. Most of my friends are in the IT field. Most of them joined consultancy and like many others had to deal with things like fake resumes, getting fired after a few months on the first few job, moving different states for jobs, but eventually landing in a job permanently. The money is definitely better than in Nursing. I am looking for suggestions on people who have had experiences in either of these fields. I know the decision is mine to take. Thanks Jay Nepal

Not sure why are you so much confused. It's very simple If your priority is Money then go for IT if your priority is helping people then go for Nursing. Sorry you can't have both in the same career.

Do not choose career becuase you saw others doing. That will never make you happy. Chose from who you are what you think you should do. At this point you do not need suggestions or you do not need to know pros and conns becuase you are grown up. Do what you do best. If you think you are good at both do both , one at a time. Good luck

- Have you shadowed a nurse? Have you volunteered in hospitals
or nursing homes? Did you like it?
- Not a lot of people your age know what they love. There is
no way to know what you like/love without doing it
- So, this summer, volunteer a few hours in a hospital and
shadow a nurse. Also, ask your friends what exactly they do (working in IT
could mean a million things) and try to do a small project on your own to get a
feel for it
- Pretty much anyone who has determination can become an IT
professional, however, determination alone is not enough to be a nurse, you
need to have the right personality as well
- Don’t think about money in IT vs nursing right now. It
shouldn’t even factor in at this point when comparing two respectable
professions like IT and nursing.

I am against taking middle path, even though often I end up taking one. But one way is to go for undergrad in nursing with some credits to healthcare IT. After that work as nurse for while, if you like it go for NP, at this point you will more then crappy fake IT folks, if you don't like it go for masters in bio informatics it HCIT, this point also you will make more then fake IT. Do what ever you want but don't fake it out and force urself, it will kill you from inside out. Fake IT money will keep hook on you, that you can't get out of both money and misery. You have option of not doing it, so don't do it.
