A 7.8 magnitude earthquake ripped through Nepal on Saturday April 25, 2015, collapsing buildings and destroying historic landmarks. The powerful quake was the strongest to hit the Southeast Asian nation in more than 80 years.
Plan International is building temporary classrooms to prevent kids from abandoning their education in this time of recovery. Plan will be building and managing as many as 200 classrooms reaching thousands and thousands of children. With your help to raise $15,000, Plan will be responding to immediate needs. The current priority is to support children’s core survival needs, including shelter, water and health care, and then provide education, emotional support and essential child protection mechanisms during the rebuilding process.
“The current situation in Nepal is very urgent. Children – especially girls – are at increased risk of trafficking when they are not in school and in these vulnerable situations,” said Freida Pinto, Global Ambassador for Plan International. “Not only are we able to keep these kids inspired and on track with their education, but we are able to help prevent more trauma and danger in their lives.”
