Its a true nature of Nepalipan. That's the main reason, I don't mingle with many Nepalese in the city and another reason Time-constraint. Very few couples are, I am in touch with. NRN is not my best choice to be a member of. NRN is just bunch of "Thula Bada, well educated (so-called)" Nepalese who just don't care about other ordinary Nepalese abroad. This is my understanding about NRN, if not why do they need to charge $1000 annual fee (in US)? Some Nepalese work in a restaurant or store Gas-station to make a little over $1000 a month, and they never have chance to become NRN Member????

If I am wrong, Please somebody explain me in a better way.
Thanks for reading.

Why just they can't open some exclusive club rather than using the term Nepali or Nepal?
Its not easy to change the Nepalese mentality "मै खाउ, मै लाऊ सुख सयल या मोज मै गरु", or rather say "You can keep Nepali out of Nepal, but not Nepali mentality out of NRN."

It's ok. Let them call themselves whatever they wanna call. For those of us who can't afford hefty membership fee, there is sajha.com :)

Not a fan of NRN but this info seems to be wrong. Their general membership costs 15 dollars per year or 150 dollars for life.

Keep in mind, NRN is a club made for doing something in Nepal, not for fantus rajniti about Nepal abroad (hope it will remain so). Face it, when it comes to contributing to a fund raise, a lot of us just ignore the events for various reasons.
I understand NRN 's fee is high, but it also acts as a barrier to entrance to a lot of folks with styles and 'rawaf' and without any money nor vision. Those who still want to be a contributor to Nepal without bringing in any financial assets, they are free to open their own club.
I say let them do their charity work and if the organization looks like a club, then let it be.
By the way, I'm not a member of NRN. Just coughing up my $0.02

Thank you "ramas" for bring this out and pointing out the exclusive nature of NRN. I too thought that anyone naturalized in another country is considered NRN.
Anyway my point is, I have seen guys like Sesh Ghale and Mr.Mahato holding important posts in NRN and always wondered why it was so important to be a millionaire to hold such posts in this association. I wonder if NRN ever helped or helps with logistics to bring dead bodies every month of nepalese workers in middle-east. I would also like to know what charity NRN is involved in in Nepal. The only thing I know is they raised a lot of money for earthquake relief. Call it a real social work or an act of communication, it is up to you. But the matter is, the guys in NRN are very wealthy and their main goal is to be able to invest in Nepal, in other words, bring the ruthless capitalism that we all know of to a developing country with one of the biggest wealth inequality among citizens.
These guys have made tons of money abroad and now they see opportunities in Nepal. But to be able to invest and control their investment, they need to have nepalese citizenship, something they gave up so that they could amass tons of wealth in foreign countries. Nothing wrong with this so far, if you are a die hard capitalist. But to mask their main intention by using the world "nepali" and convery a message of "we no-more nepalese, need to have the right to get our citizenship back, so that we can continue the love for our country," is shameful. Why don't they call themselves "Non-nepalese-capitalist-investors?"
Get the real thing out.
And as a nepali citizen, everyone should be careful of people like them because once they have the rights to do whatever they want in Nepal (which will happen soon), they will wield their power and money to exploit everyone, everything, every nook-and-corner of the country, every forest, every river, every mountain peak, as they see fit and profitable.

Hurry,

" they will wield their power and money to exploit everyone, everything, every nook-and-corner of the country, every forest, every river, every mountain peak, as they see fit and profitable."

Do you think those things are not happening in Nepal by Nepali right now? Have you been to Nepal recently?

"bring dead bodies every month of nepalese workers in middle-east"

Why are they in the middle-east is the question, have you thought about it? We all know the answer, there is no work (job). So if NRN are trying to invest and bring 'capitalism' in Nepal that will create job, what exactly is the problem? They do not have to go to the middle-east in the first place if they get job back in Nepal. Who is going to create job? Government? I don't understand, we cry out 'no future' in Nepal all the time, but when there is a group trying to create job and help Nepal, we are not happy with them. Let us give them a chance. What do you have to loose? The rivers, hills, mountains are all already sold to rich Nepali, politicians and Indian businesses.

We have NO problem with Indians coming to Nepal and buying citizenship yet pure Nepali abroad trying to get a dual citizenship is a problem. What an irony. Look what these Indians with Nepali citizenship have done to your country right now? One group (fake Nepali) is creating fuel shortage and economic hardship and the other group(pure Nepali) wants to bring 'investment' in Nepal, which one is better? Get your priority straight. Ask a Nepali right now facing the crisis back in Nepal which one (crisis creator or investor) would he prefer, you will get the real answer.

"always wondered why it was so important to be a millionaire to hold such posts in this association"

Can a rich guy not have the same love for his country like a poor person? Are all rich people evil? So the poor are the better citizen and the rich needs to be looked down with suspicion, is that your logic? A poor citizen waving flag and chanting "Buddha was born is Nepal" everyday is not going to create job and bring prosperity in the society.

NRN has done a wonderful job during the earthquake and they have promised to build atleast 1000 homes in many villages pretty soon. They seem to be heading in the right direction under the leadership of Shesh Ghale (No, I am not his relative, never seen him either). Not sure where they will be in the future.
Come on, the fee is not that bad at all to become a member

FYI, I am NOT a NRN member

Ramas,
I am NOT a member, trust me. But I do plan to become in the future.

$150 for life time is not a bad deal for me, maybe not for you.

And please don't spread rumor here. It is NOT $1000 as you have said.

We need dual citizenship. May be NRN is fighting for that. Nepalese need an organization so that they can brag their fellow Nepalese about their progress, that's all. People capitalize their deeds. If fellow Nepalese were so good, why we are in abroad ?
