Hayward basne bro hayward. If you are working in San Mateo, hayward is right across the San Mateo bridge. I dont know how much the apartments cost now but about a year ago my sister used to live in Hayward while she was working in San Mateo and was paying like 1400 for single br.

Its not easy to find cheaper apartment around San Mateo-San Francisco area. These are expensive areas. As BondJamesBond suggested, try finding apartment in Hayward-Union city (east bay area) which is just across the San Mateo bridge. Good Luck !!

1400 was one year ago in Hayward. Now, minimum rent of single bedroom apartment is around 1800. If you find any apartment in 1400 range, please let me know I will move there..

Here you go mero_naam_ho and oh_gaathe http://www.apartmentfinder.com/Zip-Codes/94545-Apartments I know some of these might not be in great neighborhoods but looking at the price range starting from 820, I am pretty sure you will be able to find a decent one in around 1400. You can move in on any one of these. Do not forget to send me finder's fee. jk jk

You can stay in shared apartments. Specially, in SF, you will see a group of people who will rent out a whole house. You can find three bedroom house for around $4000-5000/month, and if you find 3 groups to share it, you will pay $4000/3 each per month. You can look into that.
