Dear all, I have applied for MS statistics in USA and recently received approval with teaching assistantship. I have no statistics background (in my bachelor) so far but have flat overall GPA and took one stat class in my science class. Now i need to focus on calculus 1,2,3 and linear algebra to pursue my degree in USA. PLEASE help me where can i buy those books in kathmandu? Any writer you recommend? internet here is really slow, and could not download any ebook. I am asking your help please. Thanks a lot . Luna.

Just a suggestion: Do not buy any book in Kathmandu. First, come to US and then visit your professor and your department. Just find out what books/course materials they use. You can burrow or buy those stuffs once you are here. Again, i suggest you not to buy any book in Kathamndu, since you could get international versions textbooks in cheap price online. Also, once you are here, you could download pdf versions of ebook that you mentioned...

Come to USA and buy books through amazon.com. Would be much cheaper for you. Also, books written by Nepalese/Indian authors are not very useful in USA. The whole technique of teaching is different in USA. You could review some concepts in calculus while you are in Nepal by borrowing it from your friends. I believe you have some friends who were in engineering field in Nepal. Ask them if you can borrow some calculus books and review some concepts. But, don't buy and bring it to USA. You will have to eventually garbage those books.

Luna Congratualtion! You got admission and TA too so you already scholar and do not need to worry much, come here pay attention to professor's class that's enough. I did bachelor's in Biology from Nepal, Professor allowed me to conditional admission on master in civil engineering . I secured GPA more than 3.5 in each courses and received professional registration within 2 years meantime i was working for gas station >60 hrs/week . Here education system super easy just pay attention, be tricky and quick you will hit the success. so my suggestion do not buy and read text books in nepal just enjoy your life (drink /smoke and enjoy with your bf/gf). No ghokonte and padhante works here just be calm and feel relax everything possible you do not need to have done multiple statistics coursework in NEPAL. Basic concept of high school (plus 2) more than enough.

Thank you so much for helping me out everyone. Well, i am not good at Linear algebra, I mean have not focused a lot in my undergraduate. I am Not Engineering background but i love math. Submark ,Can you tell me more about your field? If you are Stat graduate student you might know how important it is to have knowledge on linear algebra and calculus. some of my friends in australia says it is hard to study stat. without linear algebra and calculus 2,3 knowledge. I am worried because i could not find any calculus 2-3 books to review in kathmandu but just basic one. I want to review and learn more (i have 4 months total to apply visa for fall semester) so if you please guide me that would be great. (haha i dont smoke, drink or have bf .) MR p , if you have already took GRE and toefl apply in UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS, Austin. i guess fall semester ta hoina spring might work because its already late to apply for fall 2016. Thank you all Such a nice people around :) Luna.

I recommend you to learn basic programming language, one my friend did MS in sta... who also completed MS on same subject in Nepal but it did not help him much most project works based on software application. Regarding linear algebra, calculus 2,3 those are undergrad course works and it does not count to your overall GPA ,if those are prerequisites specified by your department just take it and pass not need to think too much. Try to talk with your seniors from you school who pursuing similar degree at USA does not compare with australia and europe its totally different. Talk to right person get straight answer and make a plan. Let me know if you need any assistance.
