Govt to print banknotes in Nepal itself
KATHMANDU, Feb 14: The government is making preparations to start security printing in Nepal itself.
A meeting held at the Ministry of Information and Communications on Tuesday concluded that it would be more beneficial to carry out security printing related works such as printing of banknotes, passports, driving licenses and tamper-evident labels in Nepal itself rather than getting them done by the foreign companies.
“The government should make arrangement to print such sensitive documents in Nepal itself rather than in the foreign land,” said Secretary Kishor Jung Karki.
The Department of Printing will submit the proposed bill after necessary amendments at the Ministry of Information and Communications.
Present in the meeting, which was chaired by Secretary Mahendraman Gurung, were high level officials representing the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Election Office, Home Ministry, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Department of Information, Department of Printing and the representatives from the Nepal Rastra Bank.
