I filed I-751 to remove conditions from my permanent residency couple of months ago and I received NOA that says that my residency has been extended for one more year. I was planning to go to Nepal but since my green card has expired and I have only NOA (a letter) to show, I was worried. I was not worried about the POE in the US, but worried that they would not let me board with the expired green card and NOA in Nepal while returning. So, I went to USCIS local office. They took away my expired green card away and stamped i-551 on my passport and said that was my temporary green card. Now I am even more worried. I am not sure if people in Nepal and transit points recognize I-551 stamp (it is just a stamp and does not look that legit).
Has anyone travelled to Nepal with I-551 stamp or anyone know who has. Did you have any problem boarding or have you heard any stories? Suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

JJ
