My question is how much is OEM Windows tied to hardware that are shipped with prebuilt PCs from likes of HP, Dell and so forth ?

When create bootable image from old pc select option *Create installation media for another PC. Software is not tied to hardware.

I downloaded Ubuntu on my Sony laptop with window 7. Now I can not access my laptop and can not format it due to valuable documents and photos. I am thinking of taking the hard drive out from Sony and use it as USB drive on other pc then deleted the Ubuntu and reuse the laptop. Is my idea will work ? Can you advice simplest way to fix my problem ?
