I think King made the best decision. I think that we in Nepal don't understand what true Democracy mean. Politicians in Nepal were busy making money for their own benefit for the past 15/16 years. All they know is to chew PAN and give jargons. They could have done lot during Birendra's Time did they nope? You see then with 2/3 luxury cars and foreign bank a/c and so forth. There was not Moisist issue before why now cause they know that the political party member not educated at all and they take advantage. To me personally Democracy in Nepal was Like " Badar KO haat MAA Narial". Don?t know what to do.

I hope when all said and done King will prove that the steps he took was best for the country, its people, its coming generations and tourist. Nepal was the only peaceful country in the world before and we need to accomplish that again.
I wish best for the country Nepal.

Jai NEPAL

Gorkhali-X,

Please do not feel offended by what I am going to say because I am being very frank and honest.

I love to have political debate with just about anybody, as you know me in Sajha. But I am not sure if I should have that one with you. My reason for this is purely non-political one.

I have seen you mixing your tremendous personal ego with just about anything you talk here and getting personal with people who are not even remotely interested in you. I have seen you threatening to beat up people. I have seen you even implying threatening of raping a lady poster whose identity is publicly known. The lady chose not to respond to what you wrote and so I and, I guess, others too thought the best way to keep her honor is not to respond to you. The case was never discussed.

It's not to say that you have not posted respectable stuff. You have. May be you are a good person in real. However, the kind of behave you showed in above cases bring to me an image of a person with criminal tendency. I am sorry for the offensive word, but I got to be honest with you. As I said, this could be your cyber persona only and you may be a good person in reality.

So unless I know you well or see good side of yours enough to feel trustworthy, I am reluctant to have a political discussion or just about any discussion with you.

However, you have asked things about me which I really want to share with my well-wishers. My personal philosophies, my limits or lack itof, my dreams, my sense of duty and meaningful life, the personal sacrifice I am willing to make for the cause I believe in and so on. But this in a right context and in a better atmosphere.

The new division line in Nepalese politics is not about freedom of speech or peace and stability or love /loathe of democracy as far as I can tell. Are you willing to trust Gyanendra to do the right thing is what seems to divide the nation today.

"Are you willing to trust Gyanendra to do the right thing is what seems to divide the nation today."

At the surface, yes. However, trust does not come from the vacuum. It comes from individual reasoning. And it is never negative. You don't trust A by virtue of not trusting B. And a fear is not a trust. Nepal ko ta ke kura graai bho ra ? I have not seen a single person (among the one talking sensibly) who are declaring their support to the coup in this forum showing genuine trust in Gyanendra. Nobody has any idea of exactly what they hope/expect the King to do. They are happy that the stalemate is over. But they don't know what's next ? That does not count as trust.

The dividing line I see is the one between 'what the hell !' and 'Perhaps'

Gaaunle and Baibhav:

Yours are some of the best write ups I have read in a while regarding this situation. Thank you for your clarity of thought. How can Nepal in this day and age live in a Vacuum? How can anyone justify the murder of freedom of speech and intellectual freedom? Yes, the king is the lesser of the two evils but proclaiming a "no freedom" policy does not rectify the damage done, rather it germinates further distrust. Silence imposed through fear is no PEACE. I fear for the personal safety of the people(those unable to suffer in silence) who might express their grievances against the crown. I fear for the old and poor people who depend upon their sons and daughters abroad for their livelihood. I pray this lockdown of a whole Nation does not continue.

Pade Queen - Without making this too lengthy and assuming you are not trying to pull my leg with your question, the gist of my assertion is that support for Gyanendra appears be based around the premise that he needs to be given a chance and can be trusted with power to do the right thing for the country whereas opposition to him appears to be based largely on the grounds that he cannot be trusted with state power and will abuse it to no ends to further his own goals and ruin the country. That's my 2 cents on the politics of this take over.

Nepe - I think I got your point and I am not quite sure if you were expecting me to comment on it but I think you raise a moot point and there so many ways we can slice and dice the broad division lines in Nepal today.

One does not need to lose memory, be intellectually inferior to you or be a full blown ignornant to support King G?s move. If you look at your posting you will know what I mean. When one starts to have a discussion by calling his/her opponent a moron (what else should one conclude, do tell me?) then one has already taken a position of "I am right because I am morally and intellectually superior." Then question comes why even bother to discuss. Iit could be that you know everything, see everything, understand everything that there is to understand, read everything that needs to be read, heard, and consulted everybody that needed to be consulted on the issue on hand. Do you?

The question is whether you support King G.'s move or not. I am one of the supporters which you may have already guessed. ahem. I know you are very smart. But what I am telling you is we the supporters of this move are not saying he is a "messiah"
'(in your own word), that there was no corruption before multi party system, that Nepal has not progressed in some areas. What I am saying is Maoists problem is growing and there is no end in sight. I am not talking about tarakari ko ubho lagdo bhau or dust in the valley. I am talking about Maosists problem and elected congress' ineptitude dealing with the problem. Hey I am not even talking about India?s shrill objection about the king?s move here!

You know everybody knows one can show data anyway one likes. You can talk about percentage of poor going down by 30% and I can talk about 48% Nepali living below poverty level. And so on?

Things were not all honky dory before the multiparty systme, and you can go on saying 'it was not honky dory bofere' and argue against that. Things can be pretty confusing - I am tellin' ya!

Rrhetoric can be matched with pages of rhetoric and sajha will be filled even more.

After looking at the chaos (mainly the Maoists insurgency) from afar and living in chaos time to time I came to the decision I came. Is your world made of only black and white? Or do you allow some shade of grey too? Does one have to hold on to the mast 'Democracy' even a ship is sinking? (you and I can argue if the ship is really shinking or not ? that is another matter)? Or will you allow some drastic major to save the ship? Monarchist! Now that is a big word you are throwing about luv.

My dear, it is good to be democratic. I am not denying that. Do you want to sing the virtue of multi party and cabinets and freedom of press and live in a broken state? Or rather you want the problem solved?

I do not know if the king has a clear plan to win this Maoists problem or not but I really hope he does and sees it through. I want to give him a chance. That is all.

ps Nepe daju, yes of course I will take the responsibility when a bullet leaves a nozzle of a pistol and kills a "republican." Have you taken some responsiblity of the killing field that maoists have created?

baibhav, I agree with you... very nicely put, but Gaunle bro, I am afraid I am kind of disturbed by some of your arguments. Especially the part where you said "Everyone talks as if corruption was invented by Girija Prasad in Nepal. Is that so? Did Nepalese people enjoyed the corruption free society during the Panchyat era, during the direct rule of King?"

... isn't that exactly the point of 90's revolution? What's the sense of revolution if we were living happily and peacefully in a corruption free , free and peaceful land of Pasupatinath during the panchayeti era? Did we really need democracy if we were oh-so-great during that period? Nope, we were not happy, we wanted corruption free environment. We might not have believed that Nepal would be Singapore in 3 or 5 years, but we certainly didn't believe that we'd have to deal with insanity in the name of the democracy. Insanity in the form of Girija's stubbornness, mockery of the democracy in the form of Sher Bahadur Deuba's incompetence, Alcohol bathed democracy -- thanks to KP Bhattarai -- and the list goes on and on and on. And it's really saddening that after 15 years one comes to the point where he has to support the decision made by the person he hated the most -- because there doesn't seem to be any other option left -- faith has been murdered in the name of democracy.

And those freedom of press, freedom of speech, freedom of whatever, do they really exist? Somebody please kindly give me an example... I am dyin' to understand them...
(Hard fkin' friday... yetti ho.. eh.)

NK sis,

Aabui kati laamo gunaaso. Although the main part of it did not seem to be addressed to me, I'll make some quick remarks, hai ?

>The question is whether you support King G.'s move or not.
>I am one of the supporters which you may have already guessed.
>ahem.

Absolutely, that's the question. And however I beg or, bhanda pani paap laagne kuro, use my "flirtatious" (Ashu 2004, Gorkhali-X 2004) tactics, I know you are not going to budge :-(

>..Nepe daju, yes of course I will take the responsibility
> when a bullet leaves a nozzle of a pistol and
>kills a "republican."

Fair deal.

>Have you taken some responsiblity of the killing
>field that maoists have created?

I am not Mao's "Willing Executioners". (you did not hear any rumor about me recently, did you ?) Why should I take the responsibility ?

I take the responsibility of not working hard enough to bring the republic soon enough, the only thing that will bring the Maoist to the mainstream politics (well except the total extermination of let's say at least 100000 Maoist cadres and sympathizers. Total extermination cuz any remnants left will continue to rise up again because they will be still having the "excuse" of fighting against the monarchy, the right of the people even you are not denying)

>I do not know if the king has a clear plan
>to win this Maoists problem or not?.

Well, what can I say ? I rest my case.
