What is the best place to taste Newari cuisine in Kathmandu? Does anyone know of a place where they might even teach Newari cooking? Any leads would be appreciated. Bik.

I am sorry I disagree with your logic of reasoning. Newari khana is not Nepali khana. If it was reallnepali khana...the Newari culture and language would not be in endangered cultures of UN. Its really convinient for a Nepali to say that whenever it is convinient for them. Like Newari Language is registered as the orignall language @UN. But Nepali ppl supressed the Newari culture for hundreds of years. The culture, art, philosophy....They did not even have a language school till very very recently. Nepali khana is definately not newari khana. Newari khana is much much better than nepali khana. Thats why the bahuns never miss a NEWARI BHWAY. On the main wedding ceromony the bride and groom feast on 108 delicacy plate. Name one culture that has that kind of variety in one culture in Nepal. If nepali culture was so great then Prithibi Narayan would have stayed in Gorkha, he would not have migrated to Kathmandu.

Thank god you did not disagree with my reasoning regarding Newars and Jyapus :). Now my friend, let me tell you why I reasoned that about Nepali and Newari khana. I was just implying, that Newars are nepalese too, thus "tyo pani Nepali ko khana ho" bhanera bhanna matra khojeko. I agree "almost" everything you said. Hands down newari khana is far better than ANY nepali khana or for that matter almost any other khana. Arts, culture & even in civilization, newar's heritage is unmatched among Nepal ko aru jana jaati. Sahi & gathi kuro ho. We all know how far ahead KTM, Bhaktapur & Patan were compared to other Nepali 'rajya's at that tyam. But are your sure that Newari culture and language would not be in endangered cultures of UN? Anyways, my simple point was not to "CLAIM" that newari khana and nepali khana are same, but was just implying, Newari khana is also Nepali khana in the sense that Newars are also Nepalese. Tyati matra bhaneko ho. Ofcourse Newari khana has its separate identity and most delicious of all. And about bahuns coming to Newar ko bhooj. I would imagine it's coz in Newar's booj they got to eat so many delicacies as much as they can, where as their bhooj, hehe, hardly enough to eat. Masu ma pani jhool bahek kehi hundaina. Soory maaf pau. do not want to offend anyone, but it is a fact ( in general). Aba aja bhanda kehi barsa agadi samma chahi yestai thio kyara :) IndisGuise:)

Newari khana is a Nepali khana. All right! Nepali khana is a Newari khana, too. Newari khana one of my mean aunts makes is the most delicious I've ever tasted. Chwela, kachila, Daakla, jaand, raksi, sukuti...Euta kuro ke bhane chyura khana man lagcha tara dant dukhchha, ali budho bhae. Momo, bara, chatamari, aluko achar, kankro ko achar, lapsi ko sarbat, kerauko kancho achar, ....MMMM If anybody in DC wants to eat momo, raise your hand, it's on me... about ten - twenty guests I'll be able to handle without problems.

Oh yeah there's this Newari and Russian Restuarant..in Naxal.(acroos Police hQ).for starters they give you a "PYALA" of 100% alcohol and the waiter lights it up before you can gulp... Another famous place is Bhaktapur's yogurt place.... My veiw on Newari food...i think they are mostly raw and healthy ( from sprouted beans to chewra..to baras, yogurt and all) ........but some years ago i went to this fren's house and in the backyard...they had cut up a huge black buffalo...i'm not kidding//the cemented floor was flooded with blood....i just fainted there and then........... damn..........i wish newair food was much sophisticated like french..

Mr. "Gourmet" Hushpuppy, The French like their Frog Legs and Foie Gras! Foie gras, which is French for "fatty liver," is made from the grotesquely enlarged livers of male ducks and geese. Birds have up to 2 pounds of food per day pumped into their stomachs through long metal pipes that are shoved down their throats. The cruel ordeal often causes severe injuries that make it painful or even impossible for birds to drink. Those who survive the feedings suffer from a painful illness that causes their livers to swell to eight to 10 times their normal size. Many birds become too sick to walk and are reduced to pushing themselves across their cages with their wings. When the birds are slaughtered, their livers are sold for foie gras. Now, that's really sophisticated!

Thats MISS hush..and i think its chinese that specialize for frog legs....and as for Foi gras...thats one li'l item on a million french deli....i'd settle for souffle..filet mignon...and and choc mousse and of course French wine.... from champagne ..... what i meant was the presentation of Newari food is shcokingly gross...otherwise...i don't mind digging into to a pig's intestine(sausage) as well....forgettabout the liver you are talking about..sounds delicious... Bon APPETIT

Mademoiselle Puppy, FYI, Frogs legs are indeed savoured in France. I like the crepes, quiche, wine, cheese and cognac from France. http://www.ffcook.com/pages/frenchfrogs.htm Frog Legs "les cuisses de grenouilles" Consumption of frogs' legs in France totals 3000 to 4000 tons per year (60 to 80 million frogs). With a population of 60 million, that makes only 60 gr [2 oz] per Frenchman, which means that, contrary to what many foreigners believe, frogs' legs are not so popular in France ! Frog is now a protected species in France so much frogs' legs are imported, in particular from Indonesia. Snails "les escargots" Snail is another food that is appreciated in France and often considered as a "strange" food by foreigners. France is the biggest snails consumer in the world with 40,000 tons consumed per year.

Wow I can't believe what Ms hushpuppy's saying. I am assuming she is Nepalese(cause she seems to have the lingo down), she states"What i meant was the presentation of Newari food is shcokingly gross." Well !!!! well !!! well !!! if the Westerners had never shown you the artistic presentation of food you would not have known any better. It's just funny to see someone call their own culture gross. I am sure the majority of people in Nepal will find eating snails and frog legs even worse than you finding the Nepali food gross in presentation. he he Her mention of french delicacy souffle(fancy name for Mix of makai ko dhido and kheer), filet mignon(fancy name for haaku chwayla), choco mousse(chocolate was not introduced to our culture till the mid 19 century by the britts).
