I am in the market for Laptop.....Since this is the only place I know that all Nepalese hang around and give suggestions....I thought I will post this here......I work for Financial Instituion and thru them I am getting 40 % off on Dell Inspiron 2200 and 6000 series notebooks but if I do more search, I don't why I feel like it's not only the best deal in town......any suggestion guys.....and what do I need to look to get in the Laptop so that I can still use that after 3,4 years thinking that I am still ahead of technology.....

Peace out.....

Given that you do not play video game and you do not have to do any number crunching, CPU per se, even a donkey is fast. Processor speed does not matter, 1 gig suffices. Get 512 RAM. For CPU non-intensive processes, increase in RAM increases the speed of your computer. Not to mention the DSL or Cable.

I would recommend Dell Latitude D610. Its perfectly balanced for mobility offering high performance in a thin and light design. The ideal blend of mobility and features. For me, it simply rocks.

one thing i forgot to mention. if you are using dell financial services then make sure that you never have to call them.

their response is bad really bad.call is routed to INDIA; manila.. wherever.

if you make a payment make sure that you do not enroll on their online payment. Rather pay from your bank or regular payment.

i made that mistake and they withdrew twice from my account and it took me 2 months to get my credit refunded. [ i found out that i was not the only one.. you can find lot of similar instances mentioned in the web.]

I think the models thaty your are going to purchase of very low end. You shoud consider twice before buying it.It would be unfortunate should you buy and have to use it with tinge of regret for a year or two.

Dell product is cheap indeed and is very tempting if compared with other brands. I think it is adivsable to buy something more expensive which has higher spec and would last for longer peroid of time.

Go for HP DV1000 and DV 4000 series !!!

Ram P
If you can afford it, I recomend IBM Thinkpad series.......I have used the T series a lot and they are great. Very few problems if any and there i s a new recovery button on the keyboard itself so if you are not a techie then you can do your own rescue on time,in case of a disaster.

nothing against any other brands but after using this, its hard to go back to dell or whatever/ let me know what the other thinkpad users think!

I would not suggest a dell or a gateway for sure.

Whats your budget, if you are looking for a laptop less then 1000 dollars just forget it, coz u get all those crappy celron processor.

You want to go with an AMD mobile processor coz mobile processor comsume less wattage that means less heat in the compact space and more speed and more battery life.

The new amd tuiron is a nice one, you can find one from acer, the acer site is not that frendly but their laptops are great.

dont buy andything less than 512 MB ram

and please stress on the display size and what kinda a display you want.

the only good laptops dell has is the xen series its their gaming laptop.

my first preference is acer then tosibal, then, HP or other brand.

you also want a hardisk with ample of space coz for me 80 GB runs out in months time.
