Police seize equipment of Radio Sagarmatha, arrest five journalists (9:50p.m.) Police on late Sunday have raided the office of Radio Sagarmatha F. M.?the first community radio station in South Asia, seized radio equipments and taken into custody five journalists working in the newsroom. Sources affiliated to the F. M. station told Nepalnews that armed security personnel also left behind two letters asking the radio station to stop its transmission and alleging it of promoting terrorist activities. Police also took into custody journalists Ms. Durga Karki, Dipak Babur Aryal, Dipak Raj Pandey, Rajendra Rijal and Punya Bhandari from the radio station. The police raided station as the F. M. was relaying the transmission of the BBC Nepali Service. BBC Nepali carried an exclusive interview with Maoist chairman Prachanda alias Pushpa Kamal Dahal in its edition today. The radio station had, however, aired music instead of Prachanda?s interview. The government is yet to return equipment it had seized after raiding the Kantipur F. M.?a leading private sector radio station-- around mid-night a few weeks back. nepalnews.com by Nov 27 05

There are many issues with the so called leaders of Nepal whether it is a King, Political Party Leaders or Maoist Leaders. The bigger issues are arising too. My concern is how are we going to accept Paras as a king! It always disturbs me when I think about it as I have seen him in the club when his ADC was blank firing. It was back in late 1990s when I was visiting Nepal and was in the one of the newly opened dance club. I think this is not just disturbing to me but all the nepalese if we will have to accept him as the head of the state.

This is yet another pathetic move by the government to seize the transmission equipment from Sagarmatha Television. This is not going to work in 21st century... why doesn't any of his "Bhardars" have this in mind that it is not the way you can stop people from speaking or listening. In the modern world, it is very impossible to keep the People in the total darkness. Again, this is a very cowardly act shown by the government.

I know I am biased but I liked the boldness of Rabindra Mishra when it comes to asking question. I am pretty sure he recieves lots of threats from all the spheres. He has done his homeworks well, he is well researched and well prepared for the counter questions, somtimes in very simple Nepali. Keep up.

Rabindra has done his homework poorly. He kept asking, "if he would accept ceremonial monarchy before the monarchy is ousted" or similar kinds of questions most of the time. Probably thought he could outsmart Prachanda Prachanda sounded amazingly consistent unlike his press releases and action on the ground. All political parties are also set to overthrow monarchy...

This time around, Rabindra did a good job- unlike during his interview with Baburam Bhattarai, in terms of professionalism, by not wasting precious time in emotional drag. As I have said elsewhere, I see Rabindra getting better and better. Still, however, he sometimes shows tendency that questions his maturity. For example, he made a lot of fuss about "medical reason" given by political leaders for their visit to India. A serious journalist should know that it was an excuse of convenience and nothing else. So it did not deserve anything more than a quick humorous note. But, to Rabindra, it was a great deal. His grilling on this sounded like a child's innocent grilling to parent's adult talk when he would not get it. There is one thing, I am particularly disappointed, this time, not with Rabindra, but with, I would say, BBC team of Nepal, particularly Shushil Sharma's, what I think is, a SHALLOW understanding of 12 points MoU. Shushil concluded, based purely on two mechanical observations ("loktantra=democracy" in the opening para and avoidance of using the term GANATANTRA), that the document is a declaration that the parties and the Maoists are ACCEPTING the monarchy. Rabindra also seemed to be picking Shushil Sharma's interpretation. However, the conclusive message of the MoU is quite different than what Shushil Sharma understood. The conclusive message of the MoU, regarding monarchy, is that the seven parties and the Maoists are REJECTING to ACCEPT monarchy except when the people of Nepal verifiably do so through Constituent Assembly. In other words, the fight for a democratic republic will CONTINUE and it will not be given up until the moment the people of Nepal give their verdict. Prachandra's talk and UML's massive rallies with a clear slogan of "Lokatantrik Ganatantra" verify this message. Besides, the ground reality of Nepal is that no party will politically survive a day's light if they declare that they have given up on the republic democracy. लोकतन्त्रिक गणतन्त्र त अब ढुङ्गाको अक्षर हो, कुनै चमत्कारले पनि यो मेटाउन सक्दैन ।

Interview worth listening this time. Much better in terms of presentation and choice of questions from the interviewer whereas precision and objectivity in answers from the part of the interviewee. While Nepali politics is interwined intriguingly with open and clandestine relationships between various political schools, this interview has shed light on the open part of it. Yet there are numerous questions on the alleged secret allegiance between the palace and other groups including the maoists. If the King's unilateral step to crush other groups and reign autocratically has finally united the rest of the political groups in Nepal, now we can expect something of a change that will reshape the future of the country. If a stable Nepal can be insured, isolation and eradication of monarchy will be a welcome proceeding for the people. Once the fear of a strong monarchy ends, people will enjoy a free society. Nicely taken interview, still some ambiguity to be cleared. the most impressive part for me was the expressive giggle of Mishra (khitititi) somewhere in the middle of the interview :). Seems people are taking constructive criticism in a positive note to strengthen their own professionalism. Keep it up, remaining neutral, can only get it better.

I liked the interview, Rabindra did a good job. Here are few of my thoughts on the interview 1. Prachanda will not settle for anything less than a communist state or a republic state or a state where Maoists army and RNA are combined, until he has control over it. 2. There is no middle ground even though he says he will accept the "people's version" after constituent assembly however he doubts it the result will be against him (and that is why he accepts it) 3. Prachanda will not settle for anything less you know why (million dollar question) because he is not allowed to. 4. When asked about Indian intelligence involvement he dodged the bullet and rather saying YES or NO he said we did not see that (..himele testo dekhanau). Bottom line is that Nepal is a play ground for the mf Indians for their vast economic and geographic interest and they are calling all the shots. More later.. -Shiv
