Nepalkhabar.com, Thursday A deligation from Nepal has been staying at the Indian Embasy in New York. Minister Durga Pokhrel and rest of the delegation have been staying at the Indian Embasy. A reliable source from the Indian Embassy was quoted as saying the Minister arrived at their door late Monday night. She was angry at the Nepalese Embasy official for not making accomodation arrangement. Therefore, she request a friend at the Indian Embasy for accomodation at the Indian Embassy which is blocks away from the United Nation Headquater. Whatever her reasons was, it a huge disgrace for our country. Spandan Mulmi

Do u know why he was killed by Maoists? Do u know his character? How many women he got in his bed? Oh commn dude, how come u say BITCH to Durga Pokharel and PRAISE so proudly to NARAYAN POKHAREL??? It would be nice of you if u just think before you post here. ----------- Im sorry, Ive nothin to do with neither with Naryan nor Durga. I feel sad abt NARAYAN pokharle's killing and abt DURGA POKHAREL's decison to be MANTRNI. we can learn lot from both of them, Mr Pokharel was great and did a lot for collecting funds for school and colleges and Durga Pokharel might have done somehitn or nothing but she was SURVIVOOR.... _________ Ok nothin much to explain as u guys know better than this PARTY ANIMAL........ enjoy weekend........

Amazing, Your comments are so confusing; it is hard for me to find out what you are trying to say. You praise Narayan, and then you say he slept with women. This is a classic case: why do I care if he slept with a hundred women as long as those women don't come out complaining and accusing him of raping? This is just 'rumor' for me so far anyway. Actually, I am getting slightly jealous of pundit bro now. Oh, how I wish I had his fate, rather than whiling away my time alone with calculus here. I didn't say Durga was bitch because she has some funny sex life. I don't know her life, and I assume she is loyal to her husband. I said she is bitch because of her role -- including crashing a foreign embassy if it is true-- as a minister for Gyane. Meera: I am using my nickname here, but believe me if you can, I have donated my own hard earned money in my neighborhood, and in a few villages in a mountainous district. The reason why I have to invoke my parent's generosity is because I am still a student. I also have given $2000.00 to establish a scholarship for madhesi/tharu/dalit students in my highschool. That was what I could do with my money. In fact, those who studied undergrad or highschool in Nepal and ended up doing grad or undergrad work in top schools in USA DOES have moral obligation to give back to Nepal. I mean we got almost free undergraduate education in Nepal, and my grad student colleagues here are carrying a lot of loans from their undergrad study here. I was lucky I got undergrad education for (almost) free, but I know that other people in Nepal have sacrificed so that I could get that education. If Durga hadn't given back, that would have been a case of being ingrate. Giving back was an obligation. Now, by siding with the king who takes away almost a billion rupees everyyear while our people are dying without health post in remote district, she has taken away more than she has ever given back.

Pire ji, Its great of u to give back to Nepal. I want to do the same too someday, after I am done being a student and done paying my student loans. For my other loans i have my whole life to pay or at least I think so. This is for Thugged Out: "This woman is a race traitor, IMHO. Any bahun who defends this skank shoould be strung by the nuts. " What exactly do u mean by race traitor? Are u calling her a skank because she married a British and he chose to be a Hindu? I will continue to defend her and if that means I become a non-bahun, trust me I am happy to do so. I always tell all my frens to marry outside their caste so that we can end the castism among Nepalis. With Pire ji, he knew most than me (of course) but thugged out hon, u need to relax a bit and meditate, maybe u wil be less thugged (?) Who knows a miracle might happen and u might start thinking beyond caste, race and nationality.

hmm...back up a little guys... so why did she join the king's cabinet in the first place? if she's really smart like you guys have been saying and if she could've had similar opportunities as/when she wanted, there must be a reason why she chose to take up on the task this time... is she just one of the pro-king 'intellectuals' who's benefited from the decades of monarchy and/or the effective status-quo and now afraid of having to let go of her elite status? or maybe she has a vision for the country? if she does, anyone knows what it is? what does she stand for? can anyone post any links to her publications? i'd like to study those first...

Alright fine, forget her bahun heritage for a second. Meera, do you realize how Durga Pokharel went to Harvard? She was a Nepali Congress up and comer, so they decided to send her to Harvard! As simple as that! That's how things work in Nepal. They don't look at your your intellectual prowess. She didn't go to Harvard through hard work. It was pure chakadi. Actually her fellow bahuns decided to send her to Harvard. So her degree means nothing to me. She ain't that smart. "Are u calling her a skank because she married a British and he chose to be a Hindu? " That makes him a hippie. A true Hindu is born a Hindu. Yes, I do have a problem with that. Multiracial children tend to be confused. I know a 1/8th palestinian girl(mostly Sicilian) and she doesn't know if she's white or not. She disses her mother all the time for making her so confused. If you want your children to suffer, go ahead, give them hell by dating a non-bahun. I'm not the person running your life. You can do whatever you want to do. "I always tell all my frens to marry outside their caste so that we can end the castism among Nepalis. " Skip the rest and just read this passage because what I'm about to say is important. I don't believe you even one percent, and let me tell you why. First, I recommend that you read a book called Freakonomics. Has to be one of the best books I have ever read. The dude does a study on online dating habits of Whites. Of the people who stated they would date people of any races, most of them ended up checking profiles of people of their own race. Know what I'm saying? The majority of White people who say they love dating people regardless of skin-color are liars, plain and simple. And here's the kicker: although he doesn't mention it, it was obvious from the statistics that women tend to be more conservative then men. However, I am also gonna concede that Asian broads (not Indians, as they tend to be conservative but East Asians) chase White men. As for Indians, those born here tend to date other groups heavily. You might tell your "frens"(lol, you and some other gals on this board sound the same to me due to your rather liberal usage of this chatroom word) to date outside of their castes, but you yourself not gonna do it. Please prove me wrong. Marry somebody outside of your caste. I challenge you. You're not gonna do it. Alright, here's the challenge. Marry somebody who's a non-bahun. Once you do that, come back to Sajha and let us know about it. Or, you can email me, if you wanna keep it private. All I'm saying is this: I don't see you marrying a non-bahun. You remind me of American liberals. They scream equality and what not, but when blacks move to their neighborhoods, they're the first to pack their bags and leave. That's what happened to Howard Stern in his liberal neighborhood. I'm saying that so-called "liberals' are a bunch of hypocrites. You tell your friends to marry other ethnic groups, but are YOU willing to do the same? The way you framed it made me scratch my head. However, I don't believe you Meera. Just prove me wrong, I beseech you. Marry somebody who's not bahun. Now if you asked me the same question, I'd say no, I don't see myself marrying a non-bahun. But whatever floats your boat.

TO-- man, it doesn't have to be too personal... i understand you have your own set of opinions on things and you're certainly entitled to them, but dragging other participants out of their comfort zones and forcing them into defending themselves on matters too personal sounds really out of line to me... what i mean is, meera doesn't have to commit to you on whether she'll marry a non-bahun to make her point. in fact, she very well may, and rightly so... but i see very little relevance between what meera might or might not do and what ms. pokhrel might/might not have done. you gotta acknowledge individual idiosyncrasies... such a thing does exist. forcing people to keep out of the discussions not because they have nothing to say but because they'd have to put up with the apparent abuse and personal attacks is no win.

But dude, don't you think it's relevant to the discussion at hand due to the fact that she was the one who asserted that she always tells her frends to go for intercaste marriage? If she tells her friends to do so, but she's not gonna do it herself, that's sort of weird to me. I think she needs to clarify her stance. I'm not forcing her to do what she doesn't want to do. That sort of sounds like fascism. I do not understand how it's a personal attack given the fact that she was the one who brought out the "I always tell all my frens to marry outside their caste so that we can end the castism among Nepalis" issue--so it seems to me that it's a pretty pertinent question. Does she practice what she preaches? All this discussion aside, I personally want Meera to succeed and wish her luck. I do not attack people personally unless I feel attacked. In this case, I didn't feel attacked, and I felt that my challenge was quite objective. But I guess some people felt I stepped out of bounds or whatever. "in fact, she very well may, and rightly so... " Now, I believe she has the right to marry whoever she wants. I'm pro-choice on most things. But guess what, I have my views, and I stick by them. Here's the deal, I have strong views on many things, but forcing people to do certain things would be fascism. I have realized that I am libertarian. You know how libertarians are. We are for choices. There are tons of libertarians who are personally against abortion, to give you an example, but feel that they wouldn't support it personally. In other words, it's people's choice. My views have evolved. People change. So for example, gay sex is weird to me, but people can do whatever they want. I lead my life the way I feel is correct. As long as I don't shove my opinions down people's throats, I think I am within limits. I am gonna post my opinions, but most people don't agree with me anyways. They're just my views. End rant.

Pire bro, Cheers! U got the point! I really cant generalise if Narayan Pokharel was a good man or not. But I PRAISE with full heart that he did a lot for the people, Nobody is flawless in this world and he was not an exception. As far as I heard his biggest weakness was WOMAN. But personally, I dont care what he did in his private life as u ve said until n unless the ladies dont comlain of raping. Incidently, I was visiting my fren's house back in Nepal (Rupandehi) when he was killed and CO-INCIDENTLY i was stayin in the same house, where Mr Pokharel was. He was shaving when two Maoists came and attacked him, there were two guys came in MOBIKE, perhaps i was the first one to notice them..... Life, as we say is really strange thing,I got too emotional at that time. People were thronged to hear his MELODIOUS VOICE with PRAWACHAN and BHAJAN in Shree Ramapur Uchchha Ma. Vi. Dudakhrarsha Rupandehi (15 KM west from Butwal, on the way to Nepalgunj). The person who was like GOD of so many people turned into ASHES within a momnet! This is life, today here and gone tomorrow!!!!!!! Then i also got an opportunitiy to meet some MAOIST COMMANDERS, (as some of them were frens of my fren) and I came to know the main reason of his murder to be his CHARACTER, to lure women and got SEXUAL satisfaction. He was warned many times by Maoists but he did not follow. I think it was destined to happen. --------------------------- But pesonally I dont JUDGE people by comparing how many girs he has slept with or something like that. ........I think thats too personal......... ------------------------ Keep posting guys!!!!

Durga Pokharel is a big opportunist in my point of view. Her point of vew are basically trying to prove the world that she did great by marrying a kuhire. There are thousands of women like her in our country so what is the big deal. She also criticizes other religious groups which i do not like becasue i am a Nepali but not a hindu. So i get annoyed when a non Nepali tells me that i am wrong just because of my religion.

ya, Bhumi_ji is right. Corruption is not Bahun's PEWA. However, those who are in higer official positions are infected by it. No doubt Royal People are the Mother of Corruption. And obiously, Bahuns occupy the highest # to be the educated people, and closer to royal palace for various reasons. That could be one of the reasons for Bahuns envoled in corruption and blamed for being corrupt. The word "bahun" has been used to show frustions in Nepali political arena by anti-bahun groups. But, DON'T say BAHUNs are the MOST CORRUPT people for guranted. That is not true. -BD

Ok, I need someone to educate here Isn't it true that if a bahun marry to someone who is not bahun he is no more bahun?? I mean he becomes a chhetri or something like that??? Well, I am bahun ki chhori too, but I did not marry bahun so what I will be??? Am I still bahun or not???? I do not know much about the complicated caste system since I grew up in totally diffrent environment. It is not my intenstion to bring caste system either I just need little education here.

"This posting is only for educational purpose only, I have nothing to do with caste thing. " Dalli Resham, You are always bahun, but your kids will not be bahun. If upadhyay bahun married an upadhyad girl without vedic rites, kids from them will be called jaisi bahun. (without vedic rites means marrying a widow or divorced.) If someone give a birth before marriage, that is also against of vedic rite. If Upadhyay bahun married jaisi bahun, kids from them will be jaisi bahun. If upadhyay bahun married chettri, mager, gurung, rai, limbu, newar, they are gonna be chettri even though they will carry last name as bahun's but still they would be chettri or so. Thats all I know.. If you married other than nepali, like american... there is no caste to call in nepal, only amricane nepali. if bahun gal goes to newar guy = kids will still the newar identity, still they are mixed. if bahun guy marry newari gal = kids will be chettri. Like i said above, this is only for the educational purpose. I knwo, if you guys go back to nepal, your parents would still prefer you to get married with your own caste. So that, it's better to know about what's nepal caste is all about.

okay, listen up. Durga Pokharel might have had a controversial political career and might have other personal issues, but why make such a big deal out of it? Why are you bothered about her husband converting to a hindu? Isn't that a matter of pride? I have alot of respect for a man who is willing to give up his great life in the west and willing to move to nepal and work there. Do u even know how hard it is? YOu're all in the west persuing the american or whatever dream, but for a man like him, his dream was lost, and u might still be able to see him smile. We need saints like him. Just cuz his wife's a controversial person doesnt mean that we have the right to talk about them. Talking about her makes people talk about her family, and what wrong have they done? Why talk about her husband and kids? Leave them alone god dammit! Its all over, we got democracy... leave them alone now. Just think about it. If you were a minister, and you got into a scandal, and people went around talking shit about your husband/wife, and children. is that fair? would u like it? how would the family feel? use some sense before talking about things like these, people. get a life. seriously. vincent.
