The one that got way (Robert Frost)
I was leaving again, yet again…..
Traveling the road, acquainted with the night
Nothing I should care to leave behind
With all I have to hold in my heart and mind…
Yet there seems to something beholding me
The letters of my love so so dear be
I crouch down to prevent them as they fall..
Why was I picking them up? Why they crawl?
I look to the sky for memories of past..
How the dome of heaven for me had crashed
How she tip-toed and glee, she danced till dusk
Her steps awed angels, ashamed the musk
She was the my poem of life, pure and simple
And if it wasn’t enough, she had a little dimple..
A wildered butterfly awoke me to sigh
The one that got away, my O’ my!
There is no one like her, it frustrates me
Down-to-earth values and good stock, you see
She is now with the boy she had dreamt not
For being so selfish that’s what I got
Now, life is too much like a pathless wood
The depth of sadness, boy! Are they crude?
I cannot tilter from my path or sway
But the memories will always hunt
Of the one that got away!!!
