As far as I remember there was never a strong demand for removing hindu rastra tag from nepal. Why did Girija do it? I am afraid people will hold muslims and christians in nepal responsible for this change while truth is that most nepali muslims dont take beef even when outside nepal... we also protested when someone said that sow-slaughter should be allowed in nepal. I believe that the new declaration will make minorities scapegoat. Nepal will also become like india where religions can not exist in peace. Some people from my place are happy about this but I feel terrible... am I wrong?

The HOR has no right to declare secularism. It should be voted by people. They can not do whatever they want. Nepal must be Hindu country because it has historical values.

Reading at most of the posts, seems like we all agree that the move in the proclaimation to make Nepal a Secular is not really welcome. I would care much less....about the other two...calling RNA Nepal Army and the Govt..Govt. of Nepal over HMG.....One thing that bothers me is, the current Govt. is just trying to clear path to more corruption and the like...I think (just my opinion), the next step should be to create a non-political Anti-Corruption Agency..who has the authority to nab anyone including the PM through the orders of the Supreme Court....why can't the current Govt do something that actually the People care about.....Changing the name of the Govt, or the name of the Army force ain't gonna chaange a thing. UK still calls its armed forces Royal...but it is under the control of the PM and the parliament....We need some substantial actions, not just mere words and name to fool us, yet again !! Hope it is not just a bright spark, that will soon disappear, and the darkness will engulf Nepal again.....

So the long holidays in Dashain and Tihar be scrapped? It is primarily a Hindu festival right? Or shall we declare vacation for every other religion's significant days? Or scrap all public holidays based on religion? If I was a school kid, I would prefer second option. Aba Shiva ratri ma ni ke bida dyai bho ra? Pashupatiaka Bhole dev rastriye bhagwan ni rahena ke re. Dhanna gaja dhatturo tanne din haru history bhaye. Natra ta yesai kura ma arko andolaan chedinthe. Re kya ;) IndisGuise:)

Man this is all ole good poliitcs to make sure maobadi are happy and they dont start other violence, adn just to curtail the current emotions of ppl ( which most of them were maobadi in the demonstration) why else do u think, the govt didnt take the king out even when they could have done it and everyone would support it. girija wants king as well, he just doenst say it loud, he knows if he takes the king out, he'll be next to be kicked in his chauripareko ass by prachanda. welcome ..once again to nepali politics...where once again nepali jantas are in illusion.

I'm glad to hear a secular country. Every body should be equal, or you're a hypocrat.

This is a good move. Also, a monthlong holiday for Dasain/Tihar needs to be tossed out the window as well. We should have at maximum a total of 10 official holidays, just like in the United States. This will make the country more productive. I hope they also address the sexist part of the constitution, which declares that to be a citizen your dad has to be a citizen as well. This is totally sexist and is based on the fact that Hindu society is mostly patrilineal. Scrap this, because it is against women. The next thing to be addressed is this: the constitution should protect minorities and untouchables, just as in the Indian constitution, and there should be no ambiguity. As a Hindu, I am glad that Nepal has been declared a secular state. This is a positive move that needs to be commended.

first of house cannot bring these illegal amendments. As ,what is going on is outside constitution.though i support most of the proposal house made up of corrupt leaders have no right to decide.Taking democracy away was unconsitutional.Deciding the stuff not in consititution is illegal. Change the damn consititution first and do whatever those bastards like.I wonder when will these corrupt MPs learn to do stuff legally!!loktanra re!no legality from the begining how democaracy is ever going to flourish!

Hinduism is the identity (the history) of Nepal rather than just a mere religion practised by majority. The move by HoR is simply wrong. As put by other members it will now only promote new excuses for political parties to exploit the faith of people. It was a history of country of ours rather than a tag to promote the religion. Also, the military should work under some security council that should work independent of HoR. Now, as in other "Sansthan" if congress comes they will put their Chief and if "Yemale" comes they will put theirs and who knows what if Maobadis come in power. All they are doing is, before they were free to do corruption, now they will also have the army power to back their steps.

What is the big deal? I'm sure they'll put the Hindu tag back on if many oppose the new tag.

Girija proclaims that Pasupati should be renamed Pasu... because his logic says ... how can pasu be pati? In Nepal there is no sacred item anymore!! Maoist will destroy all of our historical architect in the valley and destroy all our temples and such ...

who says there was never a demand for a secular state? grow up guys! aadivasis-janjatis-dalits have been demanding a secular state for years now. Going secular is good news for Nepal. this is an EXCELLENT news for both the marginalized muslim/ and historically persecuted christian community as well as for the aadivasi-janjati-dalits! mind you, enlightened brahmins/chhetris have also been in the forefront of a crusade for a secular state. they know, you cannot have a 'samabeshi loktantra' with a hindu tag. It is also good news for them. when Nepal shows signs of going secular, fundamentalist hindus like many of the people on this sajha thread worry about indianization (read secularization) of Nepal. There are many secular countries, this could be called Germanisation of Nepal, or Frenchisation of Nepal, for both these countries are also secular. But people in this thread are calling it "Indianization..." merely to foment Hindu Nationalism. and these are the kinds of guys who also warn that ‘secularising Nepal’ may lead BJPisation of Nepal ... well, if they stop fomenting hindu nationalism, may be BJP-wannabes will not rear their ugly heads in Nepal. But who cares? Under loktantra, BJP-wannabes also have the right to rear their ugly heads! Why worry? It don't worry about BJPisation of Nepal at all. BJPs have come and gone... but India is still secular. Nepali BJPs may come too ... but the dalits-aadivasis-janjatis-muslims-christians- and women (who are fed up of patriarchy that directly follows from fundamentalist hinduism) will most likely make them eat 'humble pies' at the polls. Do you remember how manohar joshi of BJP-India was made to eat 'humble pie' at the last general election that ushered Congress (I) to power? BJP-Nepal may come…so what? As the Chinese saying goes: the dog barks but the caravan moves on. Who’s afraid of Virginia Wolfe? who's afraid of BJPisation of Nepal? Dalits-aadivasis-janjatis-muslims-christians are a formidable force and they have the numbers. they are also increasingly organizing and empowering themselves- thanks to the space created for them by the 2046 movement. HINDU Tag is an idea whose time has gone. Gone with the wind! the sooner it goes, the better it is. i have no doubt pashupati nath temple will acquire a much cleaner and more respected image under Secular Nepal. Under “Asal Hindu Rastra Nepalâ€, pashupati nath had become a poster boy of mismanagement, fraudulence, chakribad, corruption, thanks to the palace and palace-propped puppets. when count draculas like Bharat Keshari Singh & the palace-propped puppets masquerade as spokespersons for "ASAL HINDU rashtraya", this is exactly what happens. You ruin the image of Pashupati Nath – you pollute the holy Bagmati River. SECULAR NEPAL is the quickest way of driving stakes through the hearts of these draculas and their making mess of Hinduism. Under Secular Nepal, we may finally have the chance to restore Pashupati Nath & Hinduism to its pristine glory. If this is not good news, then tell me what is. Cheer up guys!
