Maoists propose federal republic in new constitution
The CPN-Maoists has proposed a federal republic set up in the country in the interim constitution.

The Maoists have also suggested the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee (ICDC) not to provide any space to the King in the new statute.

In its suggestions to ICDC submitted on Thursday, the Maoists, however expressed commitment to competitive multiparty democracy.

The rebels also proposed fundamental rights and freedoms such as press freedom, right to publication and expression, right to free movement, right against untouchability and discrimination.

The rebels have also proposed an interim parliament, an interim government, an interim judiciary and an interim security in the new constitution.

They have also proposed to divide the country into nine states namely Kirat, Madhesi, Tharuwan, Newar, Tamang, Tamuwang, Seti, Mahakali, Bheri and Magarat.

The rebels also asked the constitution be named “Interim Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nepal 2006.”

A team led by former Justice of the Supreme Court Laxman Prasal Aryal is drafting an interim constitution to incorporate Maoists into the interim government and hold the election of the constituent assembly. nepalnews.com pb July 28 06

I think this is a gr8 idea cuz Nepal was united by Prithibi Narayan Shah w/ force and against other kingdom's will. And nobody has to be a rocket scientist to realize that Nepal he created is not working. In Nepal everything is a failure, from educuational system to health care system, employments to retirement system. Even the most basic element to society, law and order, is a total failure. If Nepal is divided into states that maoists propose, more people from different ethnicity will be involved. There will be way less discrimination against other different groups. It will not be just Chettris and Bahuns ruling every corner of Nepal but every Nepali will be involved in Nepalese government. For example, about 90% of population of Rasuwa is Tamang. However majority of politicians of Rasuwa are not Tamangs. Infact Tamangs do not have lots of power to decide on how to work for their benefits. As a Tamang, I feel that my life and future is decided by someone who do not understand my culture, language and society.

I do not fully support Maoists but I do support their proposal about dividing Nepal in states. I feel that my identity will be better protected and there will be less discrimination and I can feel comfortable to participate in many events when I know that my brothers are with me.

Let's Divide Maoists first... ha ha.

Given the fine scale on which different ethnic groups are intermixed across the landscape of Nepal I find this Maoist idea total lunacy and a sure way to create major ethnic tensions.

Chitwan is no longer the home of Tharus only; the Kathmandu valley has not been the home of Newars only for centuries. Why give to any one ethnic group more recognition in part of the country than to other citizens living on that area? And what about all the ethnic groups who don't get a part of the country named after themselves (after all we are far more than nine ethnic groups!)?

It is time that we rise beyond caste, beyond ethnicity, get everyone in the country up to a state of having equal opportunities and equal recognition. The only way to break down the feudal hierarchies created by the past monarchies is by providing equal opportunity and equal recognition to everyone, and not by creating new hierarchies based on birth!

Even Maoists leaders know that dividing the country based on ethnicity is not correct. But truth is they have been on the scene with false dreams feeding to people.. and this is one of them.

first of all there should be a referrendum that wether we need maoist or not? Then there should also be referrendum wether maoist leader should be trailed at the hague or not.

A lot of followers are already trailing the Moaist Leaders.

ImI, before you use profanity and discrace your self, look at the problems of Nepal from a perspective of not just yourself but others too. Stop being selfish. Because of people like you, Nepal is in heavy political turmoil. Let me ask you a question, If you become a king or Prime Minister, will you be able to fix Nepal's problem? I will bet you my life that you will not be able to. You want to know why? Because your selfish views will only create problems after problems. Another question, Do you know the true history of Nepal? I am sure you don't. If you do, then please tell me something about Mustang district. Please tell me about Kirat people. Tell me about Terai people. What you know is what Shah dynasty and Rana Regime wants you to know. You may prase Shahs and Ranas but have they done anything to bring prosperity for all Nepali people? I only ask for equality, justice to all, and end of discrimination. I did not ask for seperate country or country to be named after Tamang people. If Nepal is named after Tamang people, I will be against that. If a politics of Nepal is run by just Tamangs, I will also be against that. Because I believe in democracy. Look at the situation of Nepal now. How many politicians that you hear about in media that are Tamang, Gurung, Magar, Rai, Limbu,Sherpa, or Thakali? I guess never. Now answer this. WHERE IS A DEMOCRACY? WHERE IS DIVERSITY? IS NEPAL ONLY MADE OF JUST CHETTRIS AND BAHUNS? Think about this, before you use foul language toward me. And also, grow up and be civilized.

we need united Nepal..not divided..Solution of country' caste and discrimination problem is not handing weapons to these tribes..There should be New policies may be affirmative action( i don't believe 100% in it but yes it helps little bit).
Dividing Country in Federal Set up is very much acceptable to me ..but not interms of race.

hello friends, in my view, if more facilities or prefrence is provided more it will help in the division of the groups, giving equal oppurtunity is better than giving more oppurtunity for one from other wil create more problem
