i acknowledge that the king was selfish and took power in his hands. everyone has right to hate or love him but i dont understand why maoist have so much hatred against pritibhi narayan shah?? if he had not unified the country, then we would probably be like tibet. i dont understand why "ekta diwas: is no more celebrated. i cant figure out why his statue is covered infront of singha durbar.

I won't answer all of your questions...but will answer few..

1. His statue is covered nowadays because part of it was damaged by protestors long back...Since then, they are covering it.

2. It is true that there won't have been Nepal if he had not united...People shouldn't do such to his image and disrespect him....He deserves respect...BUT though i say he deserves respect, I do not agree on one thing - that he is a Brave king...

he won by deception, attacked kantipur valley on days when people had festivals..
if he had really been brave, he would have attacked some other day... he married some queens of bhaktapur or patan( this i forgot) to have good relation with them and then attack kantipur...

In our history, he deserves respect and people should not do such to him ...you are right... but i was only telling that he was not really a brave king...

Inception of Word Nepal and history of Nepal started way beyond the era of PNS. . This fact has also been accepted by propaganda propelling engine (Ministry of education) of ex Nepali junta ( shah clan). This thoughts has be been accepted by historians e.g Dhundi ran Shastri, Babu ram acharaya.
Thus PNS does not own history of Nepal or he coined the word Nepal, I do not see a rationale behind calling myself something else if I do not respect PNS. He was any other

Throughout history, the Winner always gets the praise. Prithvi Narayan Shah was a cunning king and even though there is this bullshit goin on about him being a visionary and trying to "unify" Nepal, I think it is bullshit. He was just trying to conquer as much of Nepal as he could.

I think the way he treated the Kirtipures after he defeated them and the way he backstabbed his "Meet" was very evil thing to do. And if there was no Prithvi Narayan Shah there would have been some other guy who would have unified Nepal anyway. I do give him some credit because unknowingly he gave us one country. However, to respect him for this doesn;t sound very plausible.

The only think i respect him for are these:
1) Jai katak nagarnu, jhiki katak garnu
2) Nepal char jaat chatti barna ko phulbari ho.

I think those 2 things just sum up why I have a tiny bit of respect for him.

If you look down in history, there have been much better kings like Ram Shah and a lot of Malla kings (not all but a lot). Prithvi Narayan Shah was driven by avarice and power. He collected tax from the people so that he could just take as much land as possible.
And people have indeed undermined the contribution of PNS's buhari Queen Rajyalaxmi and her dewar Bahadur Shah towards the unification of Nepal. They also did a lot to make Nepal bigger.

Nepal will be history. Its only a matter of time. Why dont the 8 parties change the name of the country too. after all there was no Nepal before the shah kings.
