Does anybody know if Highschool/INS issues I-20 for 11th and 12th grade in USA. Or what is the policy for an international alien to attend high school in general as far as immigration status is concerned. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I came here in the 1991 with a High-School I-20 to attend high-school. Fortunately in those days obtaining Visa was not that much of a trouble. High-school can furnish I-20, but the main problem will be Visa these days. Hope this helps.

Hi, I came here in 1999 to attend the High School, it's not hard for me coz i get a I-20 from high school and apply for the visa and they give it to me. and I was staying with American family coz in high school there is no dorm and we have to depend our ourself. if you want to apply it go for it but I heard it's really hard to get a visa from Nepal since Sep.11. Anyway, good luck and if u wanna know more about high schhol just post here. Uhi, Nepaligal

as far a i know, the US embassy in kathmandu rarely issues F-1 visa for students applying to high schools. but, if you are already admitted to one, and have all the necessary documents to prove that you can take care of everything in the US, then, go for it. Don't get nervous during the interview, and I am sure they will issue you US visa. Be honest, be confident and I don't think they will deny you visa. Good Luck, with visa and high school in the US. Hi,nepali bro Applying for a US visa is certainly a lottery. You might loose or win.Firstly while going for an interview you must have confident on yourself.Secondly collect all possible original documents as an evidence which might be asked by the counselour.Of course you must be HONEST but not too much if your future motivation is different which may harm any law & regulation of INS. Good luck pal.

I also heard that education is free in public elementary and med-high school.Iam here in the F1 visa and wish to bring along my son next fall for elementary school. and also my wife to take care of him during his school years. If she's issued a F2 visa then is theere any chances that she could apply for a work permit ? Because i was told that the F2 visa holders cannot work and if they wish to study then they should pay the same rate of what the other international students pay. Anybody have any knowledge on this matter, pls respond soon.

Mr Sri Ram You can bring your Son and wife in dependent category, ie. F2 visa. But legally your wife can not work. Yes Your son can go to school and that is free. But Getting Visa for your wife and son is totally depends upon Consulor there in Nepal. and you have to show the sufficient amount to support your family here in USA. talk to your international student office in University or College. They will issue Dependent I-20 for your wife and son, and your wife and son has to go for interview in American consulate, in Nepal. Good luck

Public education is still free for F-1 Visa holder too till couple of years back for High-school.. not anymore.. also if you have a dependent visa, they can attend school but visa status will not be changed to F-1 because of recent new development in INS rules.. Prioir to Sep 11, if you come to US with tourist visa, you could change it to F-1 by joining some school.. NOT anymore.. got to go back to Nepal and get F-1. Also High School do send I-20 depending on schools.. most don't even have an idea of I-20. Plus VISA is tough.. you've got to prove that you've some-where to stay unless the school is boarding school which is kind a rare here in US hope this clears..
