Talking to reporters in Nepalgunj on Sunday, Minister Gurung said uncertainty over Constituent Assembly (CA) elections was weakening the eight party unity. He also accused foreign and pro-palace forces of conspiring against the unity of eight parties.
Gurung said that though discussions were going on among eight parties on republic, it was not conclusive yet. "(The discussion) is not effective and result-oriented though," he said.
He added that his party will try hard to prevent the unity from breaking down. nepalnews.com sd May 21 07

FROM KATHMANDU POST
‘We won’t quit govt even if CA poll is not held’
POST REPORT
NEPALGUNJ, May 20 - Local Development Minister Dev Gurung said Sunday that the CPN-Maoist would not quit the government even if the CA elections is not held.
Talking to reporters here at Nepalgunj, Gurung said, "We would instead find out ways for a forward-looking solution to the political crisis, as conspiracy from palace is imminent if we leave government."
Gurung's hints on the uncertainty of holding CA polls come at a time when the government is under tremendous pressure for early announcement for its date.
He, however, said that the eight political parties are capable of holding the CA polls, if they work collectively for the purpose. "Only the Nepali Congress has not shown the courage for it, due to the influence of Hindu extremists and palace elements."
When asked about the warning issued by the party chairman Prachanda of protest programs against the government in which his own party is a major stakeholder, Gurung said that it should be taken "normally though it seems paradoxical".
"We will think on containing the protest if it goes out of control," he said while answering a query on whether the government would contain such protests.
