A bomb went off at the Maoist Party Office at Buddhanagar, Kathmandu, tonight.
“Two bombs were hurled from outside the building. One went off while the other did not detonate,†SP Dhak Bahadur Karki at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, said. The bomb that did not detonate was found at the gate of the office. “Someone carrying the bombs might have dropped it in a hurry and it didn’t go off,†DSP Dibas Raj Udas at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Baneshwor, said.
He said the blast damaged window panes of the first floor of the three-storied building. Both the bombs were socket bombs, police said, adding there were four persons in the office when the incident occurred. “They were in the second floor of the building and were unhurt,†the police official said. Armed Police Force and the Nepali Army are yet to defuse the bomb which did not go off till midnight.
An anonymous caller identifying himself as an activist of the “Nepal Defence Army†claimed responsibility for the blast. He called up The Himalayan Times office late tonight and claimed his group “successfully†detonated “two powerful†bombs in the Maoist office at Buddhanagar “exactly at 11 pm†and that more explosions were to follow in the night.
