phanton-25, this depends on a lot of things, most importantly the specs of your computer. to run vista well, you need a minimum of 1 gigs of memory, preferably 2. dont get complacent if you have a 1 gb ram but 256 of it is shared by your video card/memory. go for vista if you have 1 gb solely dedicated to vista... vista is cooler in the sense that there are lots of graphical enhancements as compared to xp, nothing much that impresses me in terms of ease of use or management of files/folders. i can not speak about security because that is for from my area of knowledge. one thing very annoying baout vista is the fact that it requires you to double confirm small the pettiest of actions like installing a file or copying and pasting stuff...

Vista is freiking weird. I recently downloaded Office 2007, and when I was trying to run it for installation, Vista says "You need to be the administrator to do this" .I am the freiking administrator (indeed, there isn't any other account). I couldn't run it . Vista also has many compatibility problems. Many programs don't run in Vista.

ya man ..vista is the memory sucker!!...but sunyata ..i too downloaded the office 2007 but i didnt have any problems.. and yeah there are compatibility problems but i think there are not much of softwares that dont work with vista ,,,everything i need works in vista.. vista really has cool graphics compared to xp..so if u have higher RAM then i think vista is better than xp...and reverse engineer u dont have to double confirm..u can turn off the user account control

Yes there is compatibility problem in Vista. When I tried to install the antivirus that I had been using, it crashed the windows on the very day I got my new computer. I had to recover everything from the recovery DVD. Thank god I'm able to run Adobe photoshop 7.0, Adobe Illustrator 10 on Vista , otherwise I had to buy those. Now I've started liking vista.

Hey guys! In my experience, If you already have xp, stick to it, dont upgrade to vista, If you are gonna buy a new system buy VISTA.

I have not Used Vista. Read one too many not-so-good reviews. Basically Compatibality. I download lots of software almost 99 % of software are made with Windows XP in mind. MIcrosoft is saying it will stop support for XP in 2008. I can seriously say they will extend that to 2010 if not 20012. More that half the PCs cannot Run VISTA and People just can't go Upgrading every two years.

Its maily memory sucker, and few compatability issues... Most of the general commercial softwares are compatible with Vista and will be compatible soon... but if you have specific softwares that run only on xp and need to pay for upgrading to vista, better stick on xp or daul boot/virtualization...
