Namaste everyone! I am Bruce. I have many, many Nepali friends who are like my brother and sister. I want to respond and give my own thougths about
Deepak Bista Dateline NBC "Catch a Predator" on Monday 7/9/2007

I have very great compassion for Deepak and his family. We are all human. We all have instinctual feelings. I truly believe that even though Deepak may have been a smart student, he was naive and inexperienced with women. He may also have been shy to have been using the internet. Many people that go online fall in love with people that they only write to. There are many times in life that emotion takes control and overpowers are minds of reason. I truly believe that Deepak is a very good human being. He did not, IN FACT, hurt anyone. I do not believe he meant to abuse or hurt anyone. He brought flowers. I think his heart of goodness was at play, nothing evil.
We have no knowledge that he meant to take advantage of a young person. I am an American born in Washington, D.C., but I know that in some parts of Nepal it is common for a 14-year-old girl to marry. As a Buddhist, I know that next to anger, judgment is a very, very bad thing. We all do not see what goes on in the world clearly. We all only see a piece of the truth. As a Buddhist, I believe that only a truly enlightened person truly understands reality. I ask that you forgive and love this young man in your hearts. Please, don't condemn him or judge him so harshly. I hope, with all of my heart, that Deepak is able to smile, again and to have a very good life. If we all look in the mirror, we can see that we are not perfect. We all have done bad things. But, we are not bad people. No person is totally bad. We grow and learn from our experiences.
When I saw Deepak on TV, my heart broke for him. I saw this young man with flowers as if on a first date ready to love someone. Loving someone is beautiful. Loving ANYONE, including a 13-year-old. We have no evidence or reason to believe that he would have been unkind in any way. I love Deepak as I love all people. I try each day to love everyone equally and in the same way. I encourage you to do the same. Dhanyabad. I wish you a smile each day. Bruce of Arlington, VA

I understand your willingness to love and forgive some one and I think thats a virtue many people do not possess. I have not watched Deepak in TV, and I cannot say what his intentions were, but I dont think we should ignore something... The fact that he was indeed there to see the 13 year old, with flowers. I admit that in some very remote places of Nepal, young girls are married off, but I do not think that he belonged from one of those remote places. Even if he did, after coming to USA, he should be aware of the US laws (and should have had the moral to not go after a 13 year old girl).

In my personal opinion, I think that having sexual intensions or LOVE (that you procalimed he had) for a 13 year old child is WRONG! period! Saying that, I also dont think that we should all ridicule a man because of one mistake. I have to admit that he was not thinking and acted stupidly but everyone deserves one more chance. But if he still has some sort of sexual fantasies about 13 year olds after today, he should be put to jail for life, or better --castrated! (sorry for the strong language use!)

I agree with Rythm. Whatever his intensions were, its wrong to go and meet a 13 years girl with flowers and lotion, knowing that she will be alone at home.

if you watch the video, u'll know that bista knew what he was doing. So he was aware of the laws here. But what I perceive from Compassionate's post is that he meant to say 'hate the crime, not the criminal'.

Good Heart of Dipak Bista sounds funny.................

That was is just a sexual preditor... who drove 3-4 hours with condom and beautiful flower to have sex wiht a chilt.......and you say he is innocent and all.

What are you trying to prove Mr/Ms compissonate... have you really watched it. I dont how he is in is real life and that doesnt really matter to me but what i know from there is he is an preditor and i fell so horrible that he was nepali.

I pray he'll get enough punishment from US and will also have to serve jail time in nepal as he insulted all the good nepali people. He is a shit just a shit. As long as there are ppl like him no one is safe not me... not my sisters and not even my daughert. he should be hung....

I totally agree with Shabi.. He is just a sexual preditor. nothing else..

How can he even think about having a such a desire.. that too to an underage girl.. be it Nepal or any where .. child is a child.. i think these kind of men should be charged to a harsh punishment..

Mr/Ms compissonate, your comment about "I think his heart of goodness was at play, nothing evil." are you insane.. what will a person with a good heart will be taking a condom and lotion for.. the blow it as a balloon and play...

any one supporting such kind of person is as sick him.

Beware.....
