dude,
whats up with you wanting to do Software Development, are you sure that you have MBA from US, and if you really need to get in quick-quick.. then contact this DHOTI company below, they will help you out,

http://www.dsc-usa.com

else check these people below..
http://sajha.com/sajha/html/openThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=41759

either-way they can help you, provided you poney-up little $$. Trust me... going abck to school to learn Computer Programming is the last thing you should do, its totally waste of MAJOR $$ and TIME. If you've really really finished MBA from US, the you shouldn't have trouble learning JAVA, Perl, PHP or any computer programming yourself.

Having been in IT world for almost a decade, I can guarantee that you will be able to learn yourself. Going straight to IT job is way to go.

I am saying this with understanding that you passed MBA from US because for that you need to at-least get over with GMAT and I know that GMAT tough to crack (GMAT kind a act like a filter, it was design with intention that Tom, Dick, Harry, Marry or John Doe wouldn't come to waste their $$ and waste the class seats, like many Americans do in Bachelor Studies).

I hope this will help you make better decision.

Quite guy, thanks a lot.. very very good advise.. I agree with you. I know lots of people who entered the IT world with different background than IT major. Few of my friends and myself graduated with MIS major and couldn't find anything. Our drawback was that we were going to school in a small town and didn't know about how things work in IT world. Didn't know about contracting agents and how easy things were. We spent endless time learning this programming and that programming and taking this class and that class all to no avail. What is the use of degree if it can't get you a job. then i finally had to go to a grad school. some of my friends left usa with a heavy heart.
Then i moved to big city and was suprised how things worked; people with criminal justice and english major with 2.0 s were working as data admin, and BAs and even programmers and claming themselves as IT people..
I was wondering where all the jobs went that even with a CS/MIS major from usa i couldn'tfind job on time... i later realized that they are taken by Indian consultancies...

It is important to realize that most US companies have changed the way jobs are done. Now they break jobs in projects and hire people to work on those projects rather than actually hiring someone and keeping them in the company. It is the best cost reduction strategy and consultancies are prospering because of it. Now best thing for you to do is to be flexible and find someone who will get you in. Once you are there you will learn and you have to learn.

it's big and working as a win -win situation for all; US companies, IT consultancies, and even job seekers. So it will be there for a while. Best thing to do is to go use them and get ahead in life rather than wasting time in school...

Guys... dont worry what background you are from... if you have a guts to face the challenge, go for it... get a job you will survive and in a long run you will see your path.

Guys, I wanna take that QA/QC software training here in LA. But the indian agency here wants $1000 for 4 weeks course. They say they will help me find a job afterwards. I heard in dallas its just 600 bucks. So if you have any ideas let me know, where the training is costly or not? Also, do you need to have programming background before taking this training? The indian lady in the agency suggested knowing about VB, SQL and C+.

Anyone knowledgeable on this area please post your opinions. I am not from IT background but I am thinking to start with the training and possibly learn JAVA and other languages after a while......

I think QA is one of the easiest IT jobs around and it seems like these dhoti's are able to some how find you a job. Personally speaking, if this Indian lady can guarantee you a job after training (with $1,000 fee), and if you reside in LA and don't want to move then then it is cheap. Corporate training cost runs in 10k-20k per week. And believe me if you go on your own, it will cost at-least 2500/week. So believe me, $1,000 for 4 weeks of training is cheap.

But make sure, you learn and take time in what they teach you.. here are fyi.. since you're new to IT.
There are 2 types of QA testing 1) UI Testing (Manually and Automated), 2) API Testing (mostly for Enterprise Application like J2EE or .Net).

1. UI Testing some major tools are silk runner, TestPartner, QA Director, JsUnit etc,
2. API, junit and few more.

With this, you should also ask these Indian trainer for Profiling and/or Optimizer tools, because it goes well with QA duties.

Well I hope this helps you make better decision and good luck.
ps: its good to try learning or at-least be able to read and know VB, SQL and JAVA.

Thanks a lot lamak_98 for your valuable information.

Yes, I do live in LA area and the agency has said they will try their best to find me a job. But its not a guarantee. They have even said they will refund that $1000 if I work through them for 6 months. I just thought that $1000 for 60 hours of training was expensive. But anyways, here is the typical schedule they mailed me few months back:

Course
23-Jun-07
Fundamentals of Testing

24-Jun-07
Quick Test Pro (Fundamental Course)

30-Jun-07
Quick Test Pro (Fundamental Course)

1-Jul-07
Test Director (Quality Center)

7-Jul-07
Quick Test Pro (Advanced Course)

8-Jul-07
Quick Test Pro (Advanced Course)

14-Jul-07
Win Runner (Fundamental Course)

15-Jul-07
Load Runner (Fundamental Course)

So I dont know if these courses come under QA 1 testing or 2, may be it makes sense to you.

I am in total dilemma the only problem being I am not from IT background and what if they just want to make money through training? Any further information and ideas on this matter would be appreciated.

THE SUBJECTS YOU MENTIONED LOOKS VERY VERY BASIC TO ME. MANY OF MY FRIEND WORKS IN MICROSOFT AS A TESTER. THEY NEVER TOOK ANY TRAINING LIKE THIS AND BELIEVE ME .. IF YOU HAVE BASIC PROGRAMMIING IDEA. YOU CAN LEARN BY YOURSELF.

BUT SINCE THE COURSE IS NOT THAT EXPENSIVE ... YOU CAN GO A HEAD AND START TAKING THE CLASS.

I WOULD SUGGEST YOU TO START READING INTERVIEW QUESTIONS ONLINE.. U CAN FIND BUNCH OF THEM. TESTING MEANS NOT ONLY TESTING.. THEY WILL ASK EVERYHTING .. GENERALLY SQL, .NET ( IF YOU ARE IN .NET FIELD TESTING) OR OTHER BASIC TESTING STUFF.

GOOOD LUCK

AALU JASTO

Thank you Aalu Jasto. I finished learning basics of VB and now trying to learn SQL, then in few weeks I can join this training. Lets see how it goes. I do not have programming background so I wonder if that would make it tougher to crack the interviews afterwards.

Thanks guys and if you have any more thoughts, please keep this thread going....
