well; I don't say if someone shows love towards Nepal and Nepali should be undermined...actually, I like to say myslef is madeshi because I born in madesh and spent my childhood there. My father was also bron in Madesh so I didn't know how is pahad before coming Kathmandu....so...I love madesh and my country most. Madeshi people also have the same heart of Nepali....don't count them as a Indian origin or they love India......Gupta..jha...yadav and others are Nepali by heart and by feelings too. They also don't know how they are Indian origin and telling them as an Indian heart or origin is not justified. Regarding Parshant case, His origin is Nepali...and He shows his love towards Nepal and Nepali...that is why we showed our love to him..If any Nepali undermined Nepal and Nepali shouldn't admire for Nepal and Nepali whether that is a pahade origin or Madeshi origin. The person who shows the love towards Nepali even the person is not foreign should also admire for Nepal and Nepali....this is the real fact... So, I give my 100% support for any Nepali Heart and I don't see the person by cast, creed and any others side. He should have the Nepali heart. I would like to realize you, Most the players in Cricket is madeshi orgin...they play for Nepal by their heart and they love Nepal..Example...Binod Das..Shard Veswakar, and Maheboob....and others more examples are there to present...but I think, this is enough to present you. One more thing, I would like to add....I am from Pahade origin by the sense of this thread...and I didn't have any support of Madeshi movement but i say they are discriminated by pahade origin and this real fact. Now I would say justify yourself before posting anything...

my grandfather settled to madhesh from pahad .when i was a kid i lived there for few years.my gradnfather had lands there which he gave to madhesi people to grow crops and the used to bring rice and other cultivated things to my grandfather in return and also worked in the household as servant.i dunno the exact transaction and i dont remember much of that now.those madhesis who worked on those land were nepelese citizens.my dad settled in kathmandu later.as i grew up and started to understand the world around me,which made me clear that how unfairly those madheses were treated in the valley or other parts of the country. i dont think people in darjeling think themselves as nepali, they think themself as gorkhali to be exact. as per the answer of saku's question i dont think people would have voted if there was a madhesi nepali in indian idol.most people using this website have not traveled outside valley as they dont know how diversed our country is which makes it one of a kind. i am also happy that prashant won.

Anyone who is not indian citizen cant take part in indian idol whether he or she is madhesi or muslim. SO there is no question that any madeshi nepali could be indian idol. Regarding Udit narayan , he never openly said he was nepali. He is always in between.

vowels2006; I still admire Udit narayan....even i don't have to admire him....he hasn't done anything for Nepal....do you know...how many times Udit narayan said that he is not a Nepali, he is an Indian...I still have those interviews... Radio Nepal bands his song so many times because of his controversial interview. And every time Udit narayn asked Excursuses. He is always hesitating to say, he is a Nepali. He is a Nepali and Prashant is an Indian. and See Prashant...he never hesitate to say the reality...so Nepalese people were dying to make him Indian Idol......but still Udit narayan is more Nepali than Prashant.

I really really hope that if a Madhesi Nepali wins Indian Idol, there will still be just as much support for him/her from Pahade Nepalis. I guess that depends on how popular that show is and how far does that Madhesi go to say he is Nepali at heart, just like the way Prashant Tamang did. I say to my Madhesi friends, don't let Pahades define who you are. Make your own definition. If you say you are Nepali, as you 100% are, screw anybody who counters your claim. Most Nepalis will support you. It is the racist ones and the politically devious lot that will not.

By the way, about Udit Narayan. I can't believe he disavowed his Nepali roots. Perhaps he was misquoted or his statement was taken out of context. That happens. To me, he IS Nepali. And he has contributed to the "sangetic" world of Nepal quite a bit. His wife is from Kalimpong. I know she will make him sleep on the couch for rest of his life if he ever lies about his Nepali-pana.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” as late Martin Luther King said in 1963. I wonder when we , nepali will learn anything like this from him. We know what is good and what is not. Butstill we are glued to our caste system that discriminates people. What is this all about madhesi and pahade….i am a chettri but I am from madesh and I love nepal like any other nepali do. I am proud of Mt.Everst and I am still proud of koshi river and rich madhesi culture. I have a good ol memories of playing under the mangoes trees, running around the rice paddies, celebrating dasai n tihar and chaita after tihar(for people who have no clue of this festival it is the festival of worshipiing SUN).अनेकतामा एकता नेपालीको बिशेषअता। being raised in madhes doesn’t make me an Indian. Due to open border in 3 sides of Nepal, yes! Indians are migrating to Nepal. But that’s our government’s fault not our’s. And funny thing is thread like this being created all the times. We were talking how Prashant was mistreated by the II judges, have you thought about how so called pahade nepali are treating madhise nepali? Come on people grow up, in the era of 21st centurary we don’t wanna discriminate or judge people becoz of color of their skin. And yes!! I would have voted if madhese nepali have been to II and represent us well. And i wont say neither pahade or madhese..coz i am a Proud Nepali.

i believe this thread was sarted in question to madeshi andalon. i respect and admire people like C K LAL (madeshi ??) next is udit. all should know that udit started his career in nepali industry.did he ever said he is nepali (in any indian media). but pradhant said:-": ma euta nepali bhaayra pani........." live from the stage. people in madeshi andolon are far more INDIAN than nepali.their demand supports my ststement. unihoru ko daal galne bhaye nepal ko rastra bhasa hindi banauna chanchhan. tyo na sake nepal ko bikhandan garna chanchhan. these people have exteremely indian heart. more if compared to udits. my posting was directed towards medheshi on that catogery.

I think some madhesis have defamed other Madhesis with their Hindi language demand. Those who demand that Hindi should be offical language of Nepal (as opposed to Maithili, Bhojpuri or Awadhi ) are bikau politicians who take money from Indian embassy and run the show. When they talk about their "identity", I want to kick them in their mouth: is Hindi their identity? But there are far more other Madhesis who understand this. Look at how Sadbhavana or other pro-Indian parties do in vote? They don't get even a fraction of total madhesi votes. As for what would happen if a madhesi (Jha) from across the border goes to Indian idol and wins, my opinion is people in Mithila region of Nepal will support him just as much as people from Nepali speaking region supported prashanta, given that he doesn't downplay his Maithili roots. I have met a lot of Indians, from Bihar, however, who downplay their root, and whenever I ask where they were from, they would say 'Rajasthan. mere pitaji oodhar IAS mein serve karte hein'. If this Jha guy from across the border says that he loves Nepal and sings some Nepali song, then we will definitely pray for him. As for Udit Narayan Jha, except for a few opportunist journalists like Pushkar Lal Shrestha, the rest of Nepali consider him pucca Nepali. I still remember how happy we were with his success when Papa Kahate hein became hit. Udit's folksongs are still popular. It is sad that some of keep on saying 'Nepalese don't respect Udit'. They do. A lot of film makers do. We listeners do. May god give him long life, and ever lasting fame.

I didn't vote for Prashant. Though he is of nepali race, in fact he is an Indian. Of course, I'm more happy that he won than I would be if another guy would have own. But didn't feel any obligation to vote for him. Certainly I would have same feeling for someone if he/she would be of Nepali madhesi origin and would have own Indian idol. A nepali citizen cannot be an indian idol. And we need not be so proud of an indian idol, whoever it becomes. A madhesi from Nepal is more close and important to me than an indian of nepali origin. I was born and brought up in madhesh. I'm more happy to claim myself to be a Madhesi rather than a Pahade though my grandparents moved to madhesh in search or a comfortable livelihood. This madheshi / pahade distinction is taking Nepal back in time instead of moving ahead.

. good point Jeffali. Please keep coming. PT was experimented, but end was kind of mixed bag for the Indian’s in Delhi. If the votes /voices went for PT the intents were to declare solidarity among all those who were part of Nepal, and it will..should be same in the future.

I found this beautifully written "Open Letter" in darjeeling times: I quote and unquote since this is written by P.RAI, USA to the RED FM RJ Nitin whose real name is "Jonathan Brady". ---> Quote Hi Nitin, First of all let me introduce myself. I am firstly an Indian working in an Indian IT company oversees. I am also a Nepali. The comments that you had made (in jest or in all seriousness) on Red FM was brought to my attention by an e-mail that I received from a friend in Delhi. While speaking with my parents in Darjeeling I came to know of how big an issue this has been there. How people are burning your effigies and demanding a public apology. I have heard that there are some committees or bodies who have raised litigation against you. This letter is not a hate mail and if you will have the patience to go through it, it will be an eye opener of sorts. I will make this short and simple. You had made a statement saying that Prashant had won and since it was the Cricket Match that night, no Nepali would be there to guard your houses and that the road side momo shops would be closed. How kind of you to bestow the honour to the Nepali community of guarding your homes. It is a billion times better than looting and plundering your homes. Since time immemorial people in India have made the 'chowkidar' synonymous with a Nepali. Bollywood stereo-types are well known and we have had numerous comedians in Hindi movies play the role of a Nepali chowkidaar or 'Gurkha' with a fake accent and holding a 'khukuri' in the wrong way. At least one would think the so called creative pundits would have actually seen a Nepali Gorkha ( not a chowkidaar, but I will explain that later) wielding the symbol of Nepali courage and dignity, the Khukuri in the right manner. Gorkhas are valiant warriors and I don't need to iterate on this fact. Just Google any site on the history and you will be awed by stories of their valor and courage. Gorkhas are best known for their history of bravery and strength in the British Army's Brigade of Gurkhas and the Indian Army's Gorkha regiments. The Gorkha war cry is "Jai Mahakali, Ayo Gorkhali" which literally translates to "Glory be to the Goddess of War, here come the Gorkhas!". And it is to the credit of this fierce and brave race that many battles were won. Now coming to the Gurkhas or chowkidaars who you so look down upon. They have been guarding your homes and offices and there is nothing demeaning in that. They stay awake all night ( Jaagte Raho!! ) so that you can sleep in peace inside the comfort of your homes. There is little difference between a baton wielding Gurkha on our gates and a rifle wielding solider on our country's borders in that respect. But to imply that every Nepali is a chowkidaar is not only incorrect but reeks highly of little and dangerous knowledge. One would presume that a famous RJ like you had more knowledge regarding his own country and acted with more responsibility in making such a politically incorrect statement. One would wonder if all Biharis are 'pan wallas' or 'rickshaw wallas' or if every Punjabi is a 'dhaba walla' just because a few have taken to the profession. It is simply ridiculous to make an occupation sound demeaning or worse identify it with an entire community. There has been mixed reactions regarding Prashant's victory. On one side the people are jubilant and on the other side some are crying foul. The latter are dismissing it as a well orchestrated win by the Nepali community. However, in the light of the media support and visibility that Amit received, it didn't take a child to understand that Prashant was being side tracked. It took enormous support from his fans to finally make him victorious. And we are proud of him. You would be too if you had to overcome such circumstances. However, this letter is not just in support of Prashant Tamang but the entire Nepali community in India and abroad. This letter is not an assault to your profession or a question to your morality. This is just a letter from an Indian clearing some of your misconceptions. This is the age of information (or misinformation) after all and I guess that by now you would have known the consequences of your actions. The Gorkhas are hard working, honest and big-hearted people and I hope that one day they can forgive you and your scathing comments on their pride. For now I am happy to know that you missed the momos that night. Now that the Indian Idol mania is over, I am sure the road side mom shops you so miss are back in business. So go have a feast...this one is on the house !!! Yours sincerely, P. Rai USA --->Unquote

How come a guy with a name like "Jonathan Brady" dare insult a respectable community of India. He must have been left behind by Britishers to torment Indians after they were gone. On more somber note, People in general from other parts of the india are taken back at the news of "Prashant Tamang fans" beating hospital patients. Well, from what I heard, that is wrong information that is being spread. The riot actually started when some local people started beating two girls who were at the very end of the peaceful procession. In this age of instant communication, wrong news spread so fast that it is dfficult to fix it once it spreads and mind you wrong information is always intentionally spread to discredit the other party by a news group or new reporter (in this case some bengali ) who obviously has a hidden agenda in exploiting the information for some some gain from an individual or some group. We should make sure that this information is corrected and make sure all TV and radio and newspaper across India correct this information otherwise we will lose compassion and support among rest of India and we need support from within and outside as well. It is obviously the intent of the reporter to discredit nepali people by reporting wrong information so that we lose support among reasonable people in the rest of India since no one likes to hear about patients being attacked.
