i am a student here in F-1 visa and i want to get my tax id so that i can run a online business.

do u guys have any idea of getting a tax id?

and will it affect my status as a student ?

www.irs.govfor more info and as long as you pay your taxes on time nothing would happen... INS and IRS are two different branch. But if you are serious about your business then i would request you to consult a financial accountant or someone who could give you  a rigid info on it... dont totally rely on the info that you get here.

Contact the local/county audtior department. 

It also depends whether you are setting up your online business as inc, llc or dba.

If you will be the sole properitor/dba then you can use your own SSN#

You can get the lisence thourgh your county audtior department/department of taxation. 

But if you wanna file for LLC or Inc then you will have to go through the state and have to get federal id. and require some additional steps compared to DBA. 

Since you are on F1 status, it will be better to consult with some legal expert.
