Dear nsbozz it would be good to be religious rather then searching for a religion.

Being religious is all that matters

If you are thinking of adopting a new religion, first read our own Laxmi Prasad Devkota's immortal verses in "Yaatri".

Then adopt the religion which you find closest to your own philosophy.

BUT beware: there are "pakhandis" in every religion. They will try to convince you that THEIR interpretation of their religion's philosophies are the ones written in stones and YOUR interpretation is wrong. STAY AWAY FROM THOSE GUYS. Like Devkota said, God lives in you and religion lives in you. You yourself know what is wrong and what is right. And most of the times it is not black-and-white but a lot of gray area. You yourself will have to decide not the so-called priests, preachers or what have you.

I see that you are looking for something of “relation”. The reason I prefer the word “relation” rather than “religion” is you can make anything your “religion”. If you are or were Nepali at some point in your life and grew up worshipping idols on a regular basis that was your religion at the time, but relation on the other hand has a much deeper meaning. It is a sense of belongingness, a dependency if you will. Like the one might have with his siblings or parents for that matter. It is something that you have confidence on even when things are rocky. I am not here to presume that every other poster in this thread do not have any relation with anything other than false god but in reality you have to ask yourself whether you are wanting to follow the truth or merely looking for something that you can be associated with. If latter suites you the best may be pouring a cup of coffee at 7:00 am everyday might just be  one of your viable options since that way you will belong to a “ 7:00 am coffee” club.  No offense to those who do that. But if you are in case of former argument and will allow, I might be able to point you towards the truth of eternal life, the way life came. It is one and only through Jesus Christ. Now I am not suggesting that you go to church and attend the Sunday mass right away.  I prefer you dwell in the truth and let it sink in you. Jesus Christ who died in the cross giving his earthly life as a ransom for all of us sinner so that we might have a freedom from the bondage of evil. We might stand a chance where slate in clean and we are free to chose what we follow. Presume not my friend he never said that you have to follow him and without you he cannot be himself, in reality he is who he is whether you love him or hate him, follow him or go on your own merry way but at the end of the day he would like you to follow him since he is the creator of everything. At this point in time I will not be surprised if Muslims decided to defend themselves and expect me to start lashing them left and right but much to their surprise I forgive them and I still love them as a human being, creation of the father. But back at the ranch, the question stands still, what is and who is the truth? Now if you are looking for something which might give you some number of virgins when you supposevly go to heaven after being killed during the evil plan of killing innocents that you yourself orchestrated- Muslim might just be the religion for you. If it was me, I prefer something of more spirituality and truth rather than lust in heaven. For that you have only one option Jesus Christ. It is not the crucifixion of Jesus that make him god, it is the resurrection of him defying death. Who else has done that, who else has loved and preached loving your neighbor as you love yourself even in the mist of vengeance? Jesus Christ does not advice you to perform a ritual of dancing with a beheaded head of your enemy, or killing everyone who denounces your god, he simply says if you believe in my as your lord and savior you will have an eternal life.

At any rate, I cannot even fathom the depths of his love for all of us. And frankly we are not even worthy of it but even then he loves you just because he does. I suggest you examine yourself in a much deeper level and seek the truth in the mean time some of the writings of C.S. Lewis might be help you entertain yourself and understand your need of “relation”.  I will be patiently waiting for your reply.

nsbozz, try Hinduism. It works for me. If it works for me, then it "must" work for you. Otherwise you'd not be asking me for help. I think every religion is based on faith -- faith in something. Even atheism is based on the faith of not having faith in anything. Either you lose your faith or just have faith in something. If you need to have faith in something then why not Hinduism (or any religion that you were born with). Why I stick to Hinduism? Well, to me, family values still mean something. Let's say, I don't want to be left out from my family during Dashain. That alone is one of the biggest reasons I don't consider switching my religion, unless I have pretty good reason to abandon my family. May be it's about time your reinvented your religion. ummm!!
