This  should be an example and wake up call for all of you who only talk negative about Nepal and do literally nothing. Rajeev Goyal is an American of Indian Origin and is a law student.

Dear All,

Over 400 people gathered for Batabaranko Asha on Saturday, November 17th.  After costs, we raised over $30,000 in donations and pledges for the villages in Nepal.  Thank you for your efforts.  With these funds, we will develop an environmental protection center/planetarium in Dhankuta, build phase 1 of a water project serving 1,200 Dalits in Nuwakot, and develop a water sanitation project also for a Dalit village in Janakpur.  The contributions are still coming in, but I just wanted to thank you for your hard work.  We had a dedicated and tireless team of volunteers and an incredible event manager in Sarah Atwood.  We want to thank Marshall Krinitz for contributing four computers through the More than Tomorrow Foundation. These computers will be used by children at Namje school to track environmental data.  Thank you Andrew Burtless for your volunteer work throughout this effort.  A very special thanks to Dr. Tara Niraula and Mohan Gyawali for their hard work.

Thanks also goes to Cibeles Garcia, Mustu Barma , and Heather Berry for organizing student information events at NYU, Columbia, and the Global High School in Brooklyn.

We particularly want to thank Falu who dazzled us all with her incredible voice.  If you're looking for a good Christmas gift, I would suggest her CD ( www.falumusic.com, www.myspace.com/falu).  You can also buy them from me.  Thank you Falu, especially for "O Lal Mere" (I love that song) which set the tone of the evening.  I also want to thank Sarahana Shrestha for creating the videos, running the sound booth, and working with stage manager Matt Steele who did a great job managing the show.  Thanks also to brother Kashish Shrestha for his wonderful photo exhibits.

The biggest donation of the evening this year again came from Sanjay and Rashmi Shrestha who selflessly donated over $7,000 for this effort.  That makes their contribution over $12,000 in the last two years.  Dr. and Mrs. Anil Jain donated another $5,000.  Thanks to Sushil Goyal for contributing $1,100 and to Scott Skinner for his $2,000 contribution.  This money will go a long, long way in Nepal.

Edwin Jorge and Charlotte Jorge, thanks for your volunteerism.

I want to thank our chief guests, Ambassador Hon. Maduraman Acharya and Gita Acharya, Jody Olsen, and Brot Coburn.

My congratulations again to the honorees, Brot Coburn and Narbada Chetri.

Dawa Sherpa of Land of Buddha (MacDougal Street) has generously offered to donate a percentage of his sales from his holiday sale on Nov. 21.  Thank you Dawa dai.  Sonam Lama of the Himalayan Yak restaurant will be donating a percentage of the profit from the Prashant Tamang Concert in December at the Jacob Javitz Center for this cause.  Thanks Sonam dai.

I promise to keep you informed about the project and send periodic updates.  See you at the next fund raiser, Hope for Health.  If you would like to contribute, please make your checks out to "Living Earth Institute" and mail to Rajeev Goyal at the address below.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Thank you saathiharu.

Respectfully,

Rajeev Goyal

people never realize the good things, bad things have always been the most important and to talk about to people, its quite sad actually.

That's a great effort. At least we should appreciate for what they have been doing to help our family back home.
