In America, the famous phrase is "Ask not what the country can do for you, but what you can do for the country!" And that has made a hell of a difference between America and Nepal. America is a country that developed in the hands of capable immigrants (even till todate). But Nepal is experiencing a brain drain. Do you think America became a world leader overnight? Have you forgotten the days of slavery, civil wars, conquering the Red Indians etc? Would America be what it is today if her immigrants decided to pack their bags and move to another country looking for a better lifestyle. They toiled in the blazing suns planting acres of wheat, they rode their horses for miles rounding up the cattle, they did not stop doing whatever it took to attain their dreams. Once upon a time, America also was a poor country. But the United Nations did not exist at that time. In comparison, Nepal also was a rich country...rich in culture, tradition, manpower, natural resources etc. But because of selfishness, the country has slowly slid down the economic scale to be termed as "one of the poorest nations in the world". As her citizens continue to add fuel to fire by leaving on the pretext of education and higher income. Any man with a high qualification would seek a high salary. And chances of getting a high salary in Nepal is rather slim. So, why should a highly qualified man want to return to Nepal? He thinks he can't do anything worthy of his qualification because he looks at his qualification in monetary sense. Having experienced the freedom and lifestyle in America, who would want to go back to regular power cuts, no fresh water supply, pot holes, polluted rivers, corrupted leaders, unstable government, powerless monarchy. Such being the current situation, ask what you can do for the country and not what the country can do for you.

These are white people from Europe, that makes a huge difference for the following reason unlike them:

1.Nepali are corrupt from the blood, you cannot take that way from us.Everybody has done it in some form.

2.Lies and deception is completly acceptable as part of your culture. No consequences.

3.Selfishness is the mean to survive, anything for the family and love one, NOTHING for anybody else. An  important belief of our existence, a copy of Bollyhood theme Indian mispriority mellow drama.

Let's say this country was run by Nepali, or native or even black. Do you seriusly think it will be something like it's now? You should look what does it means by living with a Anglo-Saxon work ethics(I'm not a Christian FYI) to know the difference between them and us. They're better, superior, hard working and honest than us from the birth.

There's nothing wrong with Nepali people nor Nepal. It's our culture that needs to be changed.

Great posting. Yes as a citizen of Nepal, I feel like we, those who have left home, have a responsibility towards our motherland Nepal. Also I do believe that we have to ask what "Ask not what the country can do for you, but what you can do for the country!" in terms of Nepal as well. And it is possible to do just that without having to compromise better compensation and quality of life. Though one lives outside of Nepal, one can still contribute significantly to uplift the lives of Nepali people and to contribute towards the betterment of Nepal's infrastructure to some capacity. What I am trying to say is that you can help Nepal achieve those goals by contributing your expertise in professional and/or economic context while enjoying better life yourself. There are  many organizations operating in Nepal now who cater to different causes. Personally what I have done is that I have found a cause that is close to my heart ( providing educational opportunities, at least high school education, for those underpriveleged children in Nepal so they can have better opportunities and better future), find what level of assistance they need and contribute towards it. However I do want to emphasize that unfortunately there are some organizations who operate under the veil of non- profit organizations and are not contributing to maximum level to the cause like they are promising to do or in other words are corrupt. So you have to do the research and find out about those organizations who actually deliver what they promise.

1. Nobody is born corrupt. Corruption is taught by corruptors. Corruption is not color coded..it is colorless. Every adult has done it but the degree of corruption varies based on the motive.

2. Lies and deception is not acceptable and has its consequences, sooner or later.

3. If selfishness is the means to survive, your parents would not have fed you; your teachers would not have taught you; your friends would not have sided you and God would not have made you a Man. Furthermore, Hinduism does not teach selfishness. And who is this Loved One that you refer to? Your friend? Your girlfriend? If everybody was selfish, then nobody will clear your rubbish bins, nobody will let you cross the roads, nobody will give you parking space, nobody will produce food for you, nobody will give you a job.

4. Gee, how poorly you underestimate yourself and anyone else who is not "White". Did you put both brains through a scan to identify the different brain components? The reason why they seem better, superior, hardworking and honest from birth is because they choose to think like that. It is said that "What a man conceives, and believes, he can achieve." For them, everything is possible but for people like you, it is impossible. It all boils down to one's own attitude. Hence, change the attitude not the culture.

Before you point those fingers and write back to my comments, please be logical with historical facts, past and present.We already have too many emotional dramas that has ruined our culture, so keep those emotional speech to yourself.

You spouse might be knowledgeable with history realted to the kings, ranas,aristocrats,political parties and maoist. It had no impact on  poor majority of Nepali since the beginning and not at all right now.Nothing will change in Nepal, it's a failed nation waiting for someone to come and rule.

Your posting has a strong sense of negativity for Nepalis. You say they are corrupt from the blood. Lies and deception are part and parcel of the culture. Selfishness is the means to survive. Then you say there's nothing wrong with Nepalis or Nepal but at the same time the culture needs to be changed. If nothing is wrong with the Nepalis or Nepal, than why propose changes. I still say it is the attitude and not culture that needs changing. I am not a Nepali but I know alot of Nepalis who don't lie, are not corrupt, are hard working and generous. For your info, my knowledge of Nepal and Nepalis came from my personal experiences and research and not only from my husband's coaching. Furthermore, I'm not pointing fingers at you. All I'm saying is to give your own brothers and sisters the benefit of doubt that they are more capable than what you deem them to be. Only I know what I went through with the wrong kind of Nepalis but inspite of my horrible experiences, I still give them the due respect and won't judge the entire nation because of a handful of corrupt liars. You say Nepal will never change...I say IT DEFINITELY WILL because CHANGE is the Law of Nature. You say Nepal is a failed nation...I say IT WILL RISE AGAIN.

The "invisible hand" appears not to work because the scale tips more towards aptitude instead of attitude.

The main thing we need in our country is LAW and order. And this mentality of "चाकरी" should be  removed.

As long as चाकरी exist,

LAW cannot exist because घूस exist.

With घूस and चाकरी,

Pressure from the top exist.
Powerful becomes more powerful and will always destroy the Law.

Power should not be the law but the Law should be the power.

Pressure from the top should be stopped.

 

The simple thing our politician are not able to do, is bring law, order and justice in the country and it’s people. People are murdered, robbed and injustice rules the country. First control the crime in the land, lock the criminals away by all the parties working together instead of fighting on the leadership by votes. Let the people decide who should seat in the chair.

every party agree that there should be voting, but it does not take place because all are scared of losing and they claim that it will be unfair voting, with threats, and stolen booths and so and so. If there is law and justice and lock the criminals away then what is stopping them?

But I guess all those who are afraid of losing needs these Gundas, and hooligans (No law again…)

 

One does not need the chair or the minister title to do good deeds for their country. There are examples growing inside the country itself who are doing good deeds for the people of the country, why can’t these politicians se this and understand this?

No party needs to be one and all, that is the same mentality as the king being one and all in the country, the difference is just it is a political party. Why can’t all the party work together to bring the basic fundament of building the country. Law, order and Justice.

 

Law, order and justice for a country and it’s people is as same as, food, water and shelter for our basic daily needs.

 

Our fathers have destroyed our country, just look at who is running the country. Apparently our youth is so much dependent on our fathers that they cannot think for their self. Youth are aggressive, and have lot of energy to make noise, run around and with of hormones acting which is good for our fathers to bring revelations in the country, but at last the young people give the country to the same fathers who created all the mess. It is as if they cannot take control and think other wise.

History has a purpose. We learn from its mistakes so that we may not repeat them. We learn from its achievements so that we may emulate them. The first Prime Minister of Malaysia who lead the country to independece from British rule said, "A prerequisite to independence is a willingness to sacrifice. We do not need to sacrifice our lives. Ours is a constitutional struggle and it only needs the sacrifice of racial selfishness." Hence, before we get too caught up preparing to welcome the new year with much fanfare, it would do every one of us good to pause albeit briefly for some vital self-reflection. Ahead of us are greater challenges which we must face together, selflessly. As one people. To unite as one. It's high time we look into the mirror and ask ourselves this simple but critical question: are we worth it?

Contrary from this substantial discussion, parted of about the Nepali manche {obviously people all around the world is the  same, just be secure there`s hell and heaven by cause and being~ the good to nirvana and bad so forth},  Nepal , as a friend of mine say, dont have sea for good shipping port, surround by hills and mountains in the geography terms and far too the North to  the air traffics.Some of the land remain the same or less developed from days,months, years and till nows...Blaming to the peoples/citizens itself is not the clear issue to be benefit for 

Yes, that's right. Nepal has its geographical limitations. But that's what makes it unique. But do you know, Switzerland also has similar frontiers. The difference lies in how we think and what solutions we can come up with to solve existing challenges. Blaming the people or the government or the Maoists will not make any difference. Why did we choose to educate ourselves in a foreign country? So that we can think better, in turn solve problems and improve the quality of life in our country i.e. Nepal. Education is not for our selfish reasons. A man receives education so that he can serve the society better. If there's a will, there's a way. Mr. Sanu Kaji of FoST has proven that action speaks louder than words. If he can do it, what is stopping the rest of us?
