Dear sajha friends,
I came to the US 2 years ago and i am a girl from a very simple family, with my dad as a high school teacher.Well, don't be happy sajha people,i am really not beautiful girl but i welcome all the people as my friends who wanna share with me intellectual beauty and love instead of( u know what i m talking about). I have 2 more youger sisters to support. My dad borrowed a loan of about 7000$ for me that is yet to be paid..and here i was 2 years ago with a dream to become a computer programmer. But i haven't really gotten any deeper into programming from where i was back in nepal, due to lack of time for it. I work 12 hours a day to get my tuition paid...lol i will be tired for the day. But i have become determined lately. I will be giving at least 3 hours of a day to learning programming. Is there anyone who is with me and shares my pain who wanna work with me and discuss with me? Is there anyone who is knowledgable in building a website? I studied C++ for a semester and then haven't continued it...i am going to begin from visual basic 6. I wanna see how many Nepalese friends are serious about Nepalese people making into the programming industry? Do we think we can? I can?

Thanks suike,
I appreciate your suggestion. But lately i have become a real victim of indecisiveness. lately i am not really sure if i want to be a computer programmer or i wanna go for networking. Its not because i lack patience for programming but its money that i would be making after i graduate on any of these.. I need the one that returns me the best. Suggest me, will you? What are u upto: networking, programming or information systems?
best regards,

Well actually networking also requires good programming/scripting skills so I think it is worthwhile learning how to program. If I were you I would opt out of VB. You go for C++ or java its upto you. If by learn to program you mean be able to do all the syntaxes you will just need a day but if you want to make a functional program it will take YEARS.
Read this by Peter Norvig, he is as good as it gets.

I think this should be read by every aspiring programmer.
Talking about me atm I am in love with python. It is certainly the best
language i have ever used.

If you want to learn programming, choose a programming language that has scope, currently Java or C# DotNet or even Ruby. If you had studied C or C++ earlier, and you know about arrays, functions, variables etc, then its no use going back to C /C++, and trying from the beginning. If you know the basics of C, start with Java. Don't worry about making any websites or management softwares. Don't think of database yet. Buy a good latest version of book, and complete the whole book from the first page to last. Don't divert your mind anywhere. Just focus on one resource in the beginning. When you have finished the book and know the basics right, then its time to worry about real life problems and softwares. If you are stuck into any problems while learning or even setting up the environment, then post your problems here, and you will find someone to help you out.

dividue,
I thank you for your comments. And as you say i am opting out of VB. Probably i should complete the remaining portion of C++ that is yet to be read like arrays and stuffs...and then start java. but the thing is everytime i try to istall a java compiler in my laptop and try to run a simple program like helloworld.jav i can't compile it and i don't get no output. If you have knowledge on how to install a compiler like Jcreator and successfully compile..please let me know, will you?
