Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) chieftain Jaya Krishna Goit has reiterated
that his "struggle" in Terai is for “sovereign homeland” and that his
party would do everything to upset the forthcoming constituent assembly
polls in Terai districts.
In a face-to-face
interview to Hindustan Times daily in Sitamarhi of the Indian state of
Bihar, Goit said the only precondition for peace talks with the
government is the sovereignty issue, claiming that the JTMM had been in
contact with the United Nations for brokering peace.
“The UN representatives have also been clearly told about the pre-condition for peace talks.”
He,
however, ruled out the need for India’s role in negotiating peace with
Nepal government as the southern neighbour had identified them as
criminals, and not revolutionaries.
Saying that his
party has now embarked on a massive publicity campaign in Terai to
propagate its agendas, the 62-year-old rebel leader claimed that his
cadres had successfully waged a “psychological war” against
‘occupational forces”.
He also threatened to oppose
the CA polls in the Terai flatlands "in the strongest possible manner”.
“How can we allow election of Nepal to be held in our Terai? We are not
Nepalis.”
The government has repeatedly called the
armed Terai outfits, including Goit’s party, for talks, but has
rejected the demand for UN mediation.
The recent
months, JTMM-Goit and another group that goes by the same name have
intensified targeted killings, abduction and extortion in Terai
districts, victimising especially the government employees and
hill-origin people. nepalnews.com mk Jan 11 08
