My whole family has been disenfranchised in this historic election. I have been prevented from exercising my sovereign right. I went to all 10 polling stations in Kathmandu area no. 5 polling booth nos. 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 with the identity card issued by the Election Commission and my entire family's name was not in the list. The explanation I received from the people around there is that somebody has cancelled our name. We were earlier informed that if we have the EC's card, we should be assured to be there on the list. Is EC card something like a license that we have to renew periodically? If yes, why don't somebody make the rule to that effect. Or is it that we have to have some party affiliation to be assured that our names are there? Isn't the voter's ID something like a Citizenship Certificate which does not need any renewal? Further to my dismay, I am not the only one who have been prevented, there are scores of individuals who have suffered the same plight. They have the EC identification card but they can't vote. Different major political parties and their cadres tried to help but it was unfruitful. I further met with the election officers and they say that they are bound by the list and can not do anything about it. I wanted to know about any mechanism to complain regarding this, but there was none. I would like to demand with the authorities to correct this and let us exercise our rights.

Wow , what a surprise . I juss spoke to my parents today and they said the same thing . Someone had deleted their names from the voters list . Now isn't it pathetic . ironically , we were suppose to vote from Bansbari too .. Now there's something fishy .Some one did not do their job properly , and we could not excercise the privilage given to us by the constitution . Someone's gotta take the blame , pretty sure the Gov wont ..They had the EC card too . Hmmmm , dont know what to say .

That is quite unfortunate. Assuming things happened as you said, there needs to be some sort of accommodation such as provisional ballots. It could have been an honest mistake or bureaucratic error, and it's also quite common for individuals and political parties to tamper with elections using various techniques such as manipulating lists of registered voters. False claims of disenfranchisement are also a common occurrence, though I am not insinuating that is the case here. Those who believe genuinely that they were disenfranchised should seek redress with appropriate authorities.

It's sad but it is also the responsibility of every citizens to inquire beforehand whether their name is in the list or not. I am sure that if they have tried earlier in advance, they might not have faced this situation. I do not know what kind of political life you will have in city, but in my village, from almost before a month, gauka janne sunne, and politically active people from different parties come in each and every home with voters' list provided to them by their political parties and try to see if all's name is there or not. I can still find some registers having name of voters for 2051 BS Election in my home. So, basically, my view is for a successful election, we need to be a responsible citizen enquiring about the process and procedures well in advance. I assume that there is no mala fide intention of anyone while deleting Dr. X's name and it must be surely an unintentional mistake.

Well , when the people came at home they said that the EC card was good enough as an identification , and the name was in the voters list . Some how in 2 months , the name got deleted .So practically , sajhalawyer ,when the authorities tell you ," your good to go for voting " , would you show up again and again at the doorsteps , juss reconfirming it ?? If you think thats what should have been done , then sir ,i really have no words to say . Voting is a constitutional right and its the duty of the people who take care of the constitution to for see , that the right has been provided . Now as for being a good citizen , its our right to make sure that we excercise it .( to go to the booth and vote ) . I felt you were accusing us for not being more careful . But hey ! did you vote sir? From the very first elections , we had our name there in the list . Now its not there .. Wow ! They showed us the name , clearly boldly written . What else did we miss ? Had the card , got the information . Now when we get to the polling booth , the name disappears . Sajhalawyer , i can assure you sir , that our names , did not have legs to juss walk away from the list , nor were they doing any disappearing act .. Since you sound so knowledgeable , sir could you plz shed some light to it .Give me the word of wisdom sensie . Anyways , pointing fingers is an easy job like mr sajhalawyer juss did , but what he forgot is that when he pointed a finger at us , he had 4 pointing at him . No hard feelings sajhalawyer , we all know what our duties as good citizens are ..

Nostra, I did not know how you took my comments in that way but with disclaimer of "No Hard Feelings". I was neither accusing those unlucky people not point one finger to them and rest to my side. I was nor defending election authorities actions. I wish you understand it in proper perspectives. I was just highlighting the duty of each and every citizens. If what you explained is a situation of everyone, then, there is no fault on your part. It is a case of clear mistake on Election Authorities' part. Nostra, No hardfeelings hai.
