Is it possible to show that you are employed by joining desi consultancy firm? I have to find job by July 9th to save my status. What should I do? Please suggest me.

I wish I had never applied for this stupid OPT. It is like a bone stuck in my throat..............I can neither swallow nor throw up.

Help me.

one can obain H1b by joining desi consultancy and many has done so. So I dont think that you can not do so for OPT.

This looks to be everyones problem..

I think there are couple of suggestions:-

I think the rule says you have to be in payroll does not specify that it has to be within your field of study. If that is the case you can work anywhere be it in a consulting company or a gas station.

If it has to be in your field any one that does not have major computer classes are pretty much screwed... For people with computer background you can contact these companies and pay them to run your payroll. In OPT they do not have to run your payroll for a large amount.. So the cost will not hit you up that much. In the mean while you can do your training and be ready for interviews.

Chose a company wisely. Make sure you get everything in writing not by words of mouth.

For business people I heard the site jobsbyfax is pretty good they charge you but have heard good things about it.. Try other consulting companies in business as well not desis but american companies coz desis do not have business consulting companies.

Just to maintain the status on the current situation....join the consultancy at last hour (b4 the ending of 3 mnths)...where they don't do any contracts (no boundries to leave anytime). And on the sametime, start hunting your own subject related job search on your own (don't let agency to know about your plan)...and, if you found one before the H1B processing time...that would be the bingo...OR... you can stick it up with a same agency if you don't find one ...otherwise move to some nice agency which pays better and market you soon. Thats all my way...but there might be different ways too....so first figure out the consequences....get more ideas  and know the depth and ONLY Jump.

thankx a lot for your valuable suggestion. Localboy what does it mean by "run a payroll"? Are they gonna show that they paid us (payroll), if we join their consultancy? And in return we have to give them money. Correct me, if I am wrong.

Oh i m also in the same situation now. Didn' file H1 neither joined any desi companies. Currently i am planning to run my payroll from a gas station and tell my collge that i m employed right now as a "assistant manager". Since i have done "MBA", i don't know whether or not it would be related to my field or not..

 

Anybody have any suggestion on this.. What would happen running paryroll from a gas staion..Would gone work?????

And please if there is any recommendation for any desi companies please let me know. I know many of our sajhains are working through these companies. please kindly share your experience with us.

I am thinking about to consulat this issue with an immigration laywer. But don't know how much it's gonna cost ? and not sure whether or not he/she can resolve this issue.

Guys....................... we have only one month left to do what we have to do. We can't join the college after this 3 months. If we want to join, we have to do it before July 9th. I dont know what to do.

Last option is desi consultancy. If by working on a gas station we can still maintain our OPT status, that would be really great. But it needs to be sure.

Please check with your advisors if it has to be related to your degree field, If not that just payroll is your issue which can be obtained from gas stations. When I say running the pay roll through desi companies I mean that they will provide you a pay check for x amount of dollars it does not have to be full time can be partime.

If it say they run your payroll on 10 per hour you tax wil come out to be 70c per hour that the company will pay on your behalf which you will have to re-imburse them. If you are thinking jobsbyfax.com is expensive try alternative routes.

List out good consulting companies (for ppl in business field) Namly Adecco, robert Half inc, comsys, kforce, etc. go to their website and check out their primary recuriter in your area. Contact them and see what options you have. Trust me most of the companies are not will to give out big contracts to fresh grads. They want to put you through a 3 month trial phase where these companies comes in handy. Once you go through them you can show the company your worth and they will be ready to take you full time. Then you can extend your opt for another 17+ months I think.. In the mean while ask them to apply for your h1b. The best bet I would say is apply multiple h1bs. that way your chances are higher to be pulled out from the lottery.

Sajha Friends,It is really very sad abt the 90-day period OPT rule, if it is true. But somebody posted in Sajha (about two-three weeks ago) a letter from his International Advisor, which was sent to him.The letter was sent in regards to his inquiry with his International Advisor and he had the samedelima or problems you guys are facing right now. I don't remember the exact words of the letter, butwhat it said was (First of, the letter was inturn sent to the International Advisor from INS):You do not have to be employed by the end of the 90 day period, however, you have to have enoughdocuments to prove that you applied in different positions. Such documents might be receipt numbersor your application accepted confirmation numbers that would indicate that you indeed appliedto many positions. The letter said that they understand that getting a job is not guaranteed to anyone and alsodepending on the economy variations and a student's area of residency he/she may or may not get jobs and maintain the jobs. However, students should have proofs that they applied at different jobs. One of my friends told me that this OPT rules, which is considered to be new, was already in placefor quite some time years now, just that nobody really cared abt it. The main objective of the OPT is to have the students use the skills, expertise, and education learned from the college and utilize inthe work force that would benefit the economy and also help raise taxes. However, many studentsdid not utilize their OPTs as they were supposed to. However, pls don't quote me on this. This is just for an insight and to bring a littlebreath in you guys. PLS consult an immigration attorney in this matter. I would suggest contactingour own Santosh Giri. He is an immigration attorney working from California. He is really good andhe has offered many suggestions to many people's concers at Sajha. It would be better if you allconcerned people write a request letter to him asking for help in this matter.His Sajha ID is SantoshGiri. Interesting INS rule!!! When did it start? I have frens, who are in OPT and they are working an odd jobs, not in a paycheck, though! They finished their "associate degree". Does that apply to them? I mean. is it only for MASTER/BACHELOR degree or everyone  in OPT? It's really a great topic. All helping hands are appreciated!!!
