Hi Everybody,
I haven't received any feedback from USCIS about my H1B yet. So I decided to extend my OPT and hence received a new I-20 that said request for extension from 07/03//2008 - 12/03/2009 but the problem is the DMV is not ready to renew my DL based on a request for extension. They say they want something that says its approved. I asked my advisors as to how long it will take to get approved and they say it might take around 2 months!!! However, I am allowed to work while I wait for approval for 6 months. My DL expires on 07/02/2008. I have talked to the advisors and they are absolutely helpless and tell me to try a different DMV but I highly doubt the result will be any different. They say since its a new law, the people at DMV are not aware of it and it is the system's fault. But here, I think, the real victim is me. Any valuable suggestions as to what should be done is greatly appriciated.

Dude,
I agree with the advisors' suggestion to try out different DMVs. The people at the DMV you visited may not be aware of the rules or may not be flexible enough to try to explore in the matter or understand the case. So, try out at a different location and be polite and firm that you should be able to get your DL renewed with the extended I-20 as you can legally work and stay in country. Tell them to inquire with their superiors at the State Level if they do not seem to be positive, but you should be/sound confident. I have seen people getting DL in second location after getting rejected at the first one. So, it's certainly worth a try.
Good Luck.

I recently renewed my license. I am in opt. DMV renewed my license until my opt's expiration date. If your opt expires soon then DMV will renew your license until your i20's expiration date.
