More than 500 million people are infected worldwide with the virus that causes genital herpes and more than 20 million people become newly infected each year, according to a study published in the international public health journal, the Bulletin of the World Health Organization. Herpes simplex virus type 2 is commonly spread through sexual contact and leads to lifelong infection.  The deal just taking shape between Iraq’s Oil Ministry and four Western oil companies raises critical questions about the nature of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq — questions that should certainly be addressed by presidential candidates and seriously discussed in the United States, and of course in occupied Iraq, where it appears that the population has little if any role in determining the future of their country. Negotiations are under way for Exxon Mobil, Shell, Total and BP — the original partners decades ago in the Iraq Petroleum Company, now joined by Chevron and other smaller oil companies — to renew the oil concession they lost to nationalisation during the years when the oil producers took over their own resources. The no-bid contracts, apparently written by the oil corporations with the help of U.S. officials, prevailed over offers from more than 40 other companies, including companies in China, India and Russia.            मौसम न गर्मी न जाडोको दोसाँधमा गतिमान् थियो । यायावर प्रातः भ्रमणमा निस्केको थियो । अनित्य देहको आरोग्य स्वच्छ बिहानीको दृश्यावलोकन र लोकचरित्र अवलोकन गरी सदाझैँ उसका मुखेन्जी तीनवटा उद्देश्य थिए । भ्रष्ट नेताको सहस्र कुच्चिएको छविजस्तो सडकमा अलि पर चिने-चिनेजस्तो जीवको काया उसका नजरमा पर्यो । हिँडाइको चाल र लय नियाल्दा लाग्थ्यो मानौँ आपुनै थकित मानसको बोझ बोकेर सुस्त स्पन्दनहीन र उमङ्गहीन दशामा ऊ घिसि्ररहेछ ।
ती दुईका आँखा जुध्दा पुराना विस्मृतप्रायः सम्झनाका झिल्काहरु उठे । विक्रमाव्दको असीको दसकमा ती एउटा दुर्गम बस्तीमा एउटै विद्यालयका शिक्षक थिए । जन्मले उच्च जातमा परेको र एक पेट खान पुग्ने यायावर माध्यमिक तहमा पढाउँथ्यो । दुःखजीलो गरी एसएलसी पास गरेको त्यो जीव अर्थात् मुक्तिमान दर्जी प्राथमिक तहमा प्रताडित थ्यो । दर्जाले सम्मानित शिक्षक भनेर के गर्नु मुक्तिमान विद्यालयमा पल-प्रतिपल अपमानको सिकार बन्न श्रापित थियो । परम्पराको अमानवीय छायाँमुनि बिष्ट खलकको मिचाहा संस्कार लिएर आएका विद्यार्थीहरुका नजरमा उसको उत्रो मानभाउ थिएन । न त शिक्षक कक्षमा खेल-मैदानमा उत्सव-समारोहमा वा वनभोजमा नै उसलाई उत्रो आदरका दृष्टिले हेरिन्थ्यो । गरिब त ऊ थियो नै उच-नीचको रोगले गाँजेको कुरुप समाजमा ऊ अछूत पनि थियो ऊ दलित पनि थियो तसर्थ ऊ सर्वत्र अपहेलित थियो । कतैका कसैको सम्पर्कबाट अपहेलनाका चोटैचोट लागेको उसको आहत मानसमा एउटा लाल पार्टीको लालिमा पोतियो । र उसले त्यो मास्टरी त्यो अपमानको गुँड चटक्कै छाडेर भूमिगत राजनीतिमा होमिने अठोट गर्यो । नर्कतुल्य यो विद्यालयको सङ्गत मलाई अब पुग्यो आँखामा उदास भावुकता भरेर बिदाइको हात मिलाउँदै यायावरसँग उसले भनेथ्यो म कि हकका लागि लडेर मर्छु कि आपुनो दलित जातको मुक्तिका लागि केही गर्छु । यो छिःछिः-दूरदूर मलाई अचाक्ली भो ।
त्यसपछि तिनको भेट राजनीतिक मेसोमा आक्कल-झुक्कलमात्र भयो । (more…)
