Casino workers take to chakkajam in capital

Kantipur Report

KATHMANDU, Oct 27 - The traffic in the capital was in chaos Monday morning due to chakkajam called by staffers and management of casinos.

Protesting the attempted police raid in Casino Anna at Durbarmarg Friday night, they obstructed the vehicular movement in main roads in the Valley from 10 to 11 this morning as per their slated schedule.

Though casino workers are launching protest, the casino management also is actively participating in the programmes since Saturday.

The casinos in the Valley have been on a warpath following the attempted police raid and clash between the police and casino workers.

The casino workers have been demanding that the rules and law must be amended and the Nepalis also should be allowed to enter the casinos.

They even warned to initiate other protest programmes soon after Tihar.

Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam said demands that attempt to turn people gamblers are meaningless.

Home Minister Gautam warned that he will take further action against the casino owners if extra illegal activities are carried out in the casinos.

I dnot understand why there is always chakkajam as a means of protest. Let me ask how many Nepali are capable of going to Casino other than those who are working there? The steps taken by the government is good for the security purpose. What you guys say?

One thing this government really should do to gain people's support is to ban Nepal bandh and Chakka Jam, make it illegal and punish those who organize these jams. Sick and tired of these JAMS man. and now the casino worker are organizing Jams. what next chakka Jam by Carpet factory???

neerman the question here is not about how many people in nepal can afford to go to casino but about rights. i dont agree with closing casinos early and not letting nepali people to enter there.. more people in casino = more money in circulation.... beside toursits in nepal diffinietly want to stay in casino for hours and hours and spend all their money which is good for our country.. but with the casino and other bars and restaurant being closed early its not only affecting casino owner but its also effecting thousand of people that the casinos hire... i guess nepali is being more like china now...
