this happened in America to me about  a year back.I used to live as a paying guest in some place in ND.Woods all around the place. There was a house at the end of the street.I was always curious who lived in that dirty house.I had the habit of walking down the street while talking on phone. At around 8 pm i got a call from home and i got out and started walking down the street. This time i was walking towards the dead end where the dirty house was there. As i reached near the house i heard a voice, someone's talking gibberish.I thought a new guy is in the house. But as i went near that house the sound went high and i was able to see someone's inside the window.i could see two guys facing towards the TV.I hung up the phone and i started going near the house coz the sound was weird. As i reached near the house, one guy shouted at me,get the fu*****k outta here.
I ran back to the house and i asked my landlord if someone lives in that house and he told there used to be a world war 2 veteran living in that house about a year ago and he got choked while eating something.Since than 2 3 people tried to live in that house and nobody could because of weirdness and he asked me not to go near that house..

This happened some years ago in senior year of undergrad. We had just moved to an apartment off campus. It was around eleven at night. Had gone to bed terrified after watching a horror movie. I got up to pee. Was walking towards the bathroom and saw a figure in front of me. I screamed in fright, woke up my apartment mate. She agreed to investigate. Walking towards the bathroom I found out the hall mirror was reflecting my image. I was too ashamed to tell her that and told apartment mate that the ghost must have disappeared.

I have two stories. I heard from my sisters.

#1:
This was few decades ago when my grandfather was young. Our old home was near airport. At that time one of our relatives got a baby and she was hospitalized in Patan Hospital. So,my grandfather got a responsibility of taking care of her dinner. He used to take his bicycle (budho cycle) all the way from home (airport) to Patan hospital.

One of those nights as he was coming back to home.........
(AT THIS PIONT, I would like to mention that how Kathmandu was at that time. As I heard from old fellows, jackles used to move around...lots of trees....less people)
So, as he was returning back from Patan Hospital to home riding on his bicycle .....he saw a lady on a white sari. He saw her from the back as he was paddling his bicycle on the UKALO from TINKUNE to AIRPORT. Dark night....ALI ALI CHISO....both sides lots of tress unlike the current scenario.
So, he saw this lady. He got off his bicycle and called her from back and offered her a lift if she wants (as it was too late for a lady to roam around at night). My grandfather was also afraid at the same time while offering her the lift. However, as she turned towards him.............
He felt different and surprised by the fact that how beautiful she was. He, now, could not move his eyes from her.

She said,"Sure. that's so nice of you"

Now, she is on the back (carriage) of the bicycle and he's padding. After few mins, on the way, he happend to roll his eyes down to the cycle chain. He saw the feet of that lady was facing to other direction. TYAS PAACHI TA BAJE LE CYCLE ROAD KO SIDE KO JHYANG MA PHYALERA TAAPP.

As he reached home, he got fainted. Then, all family members were dead-scared. They called gurju and he did phuk phak for a month re. Only after a month, my grand father got back to normal and he told that story to others re.

#2:
...this one sounds more scary coz it happened to our generation (my KAKA's son). so this is first hand story. will come soon....... with #2....

"TYAS PAACHI TA BAJE LE CYCLE ROAD KO SIDE KO JHYANG MA PHYALERA TAAPP. "

When we are busy with American lifestyle there is no time to think about spiritual side but when we go to Nepal, there is a certain spiritual side of the whole society that ties us into the legends and spirituality.

Does anyone have any experience or stories to share?

What is particularly striking about the Nepali psyche and ghosts is: The ghost that haunts, torments, and scares people to death is almost always a woman: usually a poor, sick, older, abandoned, disheveled and often mentally handicapped - fits the profile eh? Just wondering!

My best friend had encounter with kichkandi and he was sick for over a month after that. Dunno what to believe. It could be just some poor sick woman like snurp pointed out but probably the mental psychology messed him up thinking it was brush with death.
