Actually, if you have the whole Adobe suite, then Premiere is great. Mixes well with other parts of Adobe. One option is Sony Vegas Pro 8. Very easy and one of the best software!

the biggest problem with adobe premiere is that video rendering is WAY WAY slow. i used cs3 suite and the speed of rendering was horrible. i don't know if they've fixed it in later versions. if you are a beginner, also try corel suite...the tutorials are elaborative.

Another important aspect of HD video editing is the encoding of video and the choice of a good CODEC. Use h264 as it is becoming the future standard for video encoding. I prefer VLC Media Player for encoding my videos in h264. VLC encoded video even just at 1500 kbps looks simply outstanding and which is very good for web streaming.
