Choose the one where u've got full scholarship. UMN has good programs in engineering, but I believe you'd have to go for the one that offers u in-state options. I have limited knowledge about Minnesota but regarding UTA, I tell u that living costs is relatively cheaper at Texas. U have one problem living in Texas, u gotto own a car if u intend to....U know wot i mean. Gud luck!

I think University of Minnesota enjoys a very good reputation..and there are lots of companies in Minneapolis/St. Paul area..go to UMN if you can afford that extra $3,000..UMN's ranking and reputation equals to those of UNC and UT Austin..and UTA doesn't even compare..by the way, are going there for grad or undergrad??

I went to grad school at U of M Twin Cities , for Computer Science. They have very good graduate program for computer science, and it is very competitive to get in . There are many active research programs with CS. You are right, it is definitely very expensive. So that is why, there are hardly any nepali students for undergrad. But if you get in grad school you will have lot of opportunities for RA/TA. If I were you, I would go to decent university and do really well and try to go in very good univeristies for grad school. I don't know how good is UTA for CS undergrad.
While doing undergrad, i. Make sure you are involved with research with your professor or even do independet research. ii. It will be nice if you can get some paper published in ACM, EEE or any good journal
I am telling this you this , because when you are in grad school, most of the students admitted are from good universities in China and India and they have very good fundamental knowledge of CS. Very good in C , or any programming language and you got to comepete with them.
Good luck and work hard. I am sure you will achieve your dream.

I am an undergrad at U. i think if cost does not matter to u, it is definitely the better choice than going to UTA. there are few Nepalese undergrads. most of them came here last semester. i heard that few more are coming next fall. so if u are planning to come here, it's really a great time, coz you might find some Nepalese room mates, that will definitely reduce ur living expenses to some extent. Get in touch with NSA, they will have better idea of how many Nepalese undergrads are coming . For school expenses, it will cost you 8000 dollars a semester including ur insurance. The living around campus is quite expensive if you want to live by urself.

Contacting NSA at UMN is worthless. People involved in that are so irresponsible and they do not deserve to be organized, as they never go to the norm of group or association. You will get a lot of help from nepali residing in Minneapolis, but these so called NSA people they won't be helpful. They are bunch of nepali who think they are the best as they go to good school. My suggesstion is contact nepali outside UMN to arrange thing in minneapolis, if you decide to come.

Since I'm in grad school with funding, I have not much info on how hard to find jobs on campus. But i guess its not hard to find oncampus job. regarding off campus, i heard that its hard to find, but not sure. You will have more infor from undergrads attending here. regarding rents, if you live offcampus in cooperative housing then depending upon room size it will cost above 280. In there are some coops in saint paul where bunch of nepali stays, they have room from 250 to 550 i guess. But you have to share kitchen and bathroom and have to do some weekly house jobs. You can stay in appartment sharing with people, if you get. Usually one bedroom apt cost avg of 600 and 2-3 BR average of 7-800. If you live in apt or coop you will have parking option either in parking lot/garage/ or on/off street parking. and do not cost alot. now i'm paying 10/mo in my housing for parking. If you plan to park on campus, then good luck, it will be expensive and difficult to get parking pass. However, you can buy a metro pass at around $80-85 for whole semester. That will help you a lot as it will give you unlimited ride in metro buses and light rails. there is campus bus service running every 5-10 min during semester and connects st. paul and minneapolis campus. so many people stay in st. paul (cheaper rent) eventhough their school is at minneapolis and viceversa. Health insurance cost 852 per semester.

Regarding on campus job, it is not that hard to find one. so, don't worry about that . Harikanchha has already provided u most of the informations. As u are an IT major, most of ur classes will be in Minneapolis Campus, so i recommend living somewhere close to minneapolis campus ( again if the cost factor is not a big deal for you). I agree with Harikanchha on somewhat about NSA, but still try to be in conact if you can so that you will have better information regarding the undergrads coming next semester ( especially in finding roommates if you are planning to have any). when i first came here, i did not have any clue about NSA. Even i did not know anybody, but still everything went well. About the Scholarship, it is really hard to get undergrad scholarship unless u are super smart. if you have any questions further, let us know.

The probability of getting jobs after the graduation depends mainly upon u, but the school reputation does matter in the situation when u compete with persons from different institutions. i personally do not know any already graduated IT Undergrad from here. But i do know few who have graduated with undergrad degrees like Finance and something else and they did find a job. But the main thing is that u have the access to lots of opportunities to explore urself .
