I am working towards my CPA and plan to finish my CPA exams soon. However, to get the CPA License, I need to get experience working under the direct supervision of CPA. Although I have some experience working in different fields, I do not have proper experience to get the CPA license.

Therefore, I am requesting Nepali CPAs (especially those who have their own CPA firms) working in the US to give me an opportunity to work under your direct supervision to get qualified for the CPA license. I can work for very minimal salary or no salary. We can talk about being partners in the future when I have my license or any other arrangement that you deem appropriate.

I hope I get help from my fellow Nepali brothers or sisters. Thank you in advance for your help.

Elixir

Again, incomplete request.

In what state are you living right now?

Why only Nepalese CPA?

I live in Maryland, around Washington Metropolitan Area, and there are plenty of CPA's firm who like to have a person like you.

Hi Gay Goat,

Thanks for your comment. I do not have problem in relocating myself if I get an opportunity. I am in Michigan. I do not care whether the CPA is a Nepali or anybody. The only reason I mentioned Nepali CPAs because I do not expect any other nationals to visit Sajha.

I would appreciate your helping me out finding such a CPA firm who is willing to give me an opportunity to work. Can you provide me the contact details of any firms that you know of? You can e-mail me in sajha itself.

Thank you in advance for your help.

If I were you, I would not say no salary when I approach a potential employment, be it just to get your work experience. I would only say "compensation negotiable".

SickNTired, thanks for your suggestion. Yeah, that's good way to go. However, I have already posted it in sajha, I am going to stick with it. I just wanted to let prospective employers know the level of sacrifice I was willing to make. They usually honor that and try to make their best efforts to compensate people for the work they've done. My statement is really based on the notion that everybody is fair and considerate.

Thanks,

I don't think u need experience to get certifed. Try Delaware state for certification.

If you have passed ur CPA exams from onother state, u can transfer ur credit there and get

certified. It doesn't matter which state u get CPA certification, as long as u can write CPA after ur name

employer will hire you. Just double check cauz it been while I checked that.

Also, most firms are willing hire ppl who have passed all parts of the exam, u don't even need that certifcation right away.

Once you have ur license, look for public accountnig firm, hiring season starts from Mid August to September.

If you have a degree from USA, it will be little easier.

I would not suggest u to work for free, instead look to work for less salary.

Remember, demand for CPA is increasing as u need masters now to give CPA exams,

so do not sell sort, have patience and try little harder. Public accouting firms

loves people like who have workaholic attitude so don't afraid to tell future employers

about what u r and what u want to do. HOnesty is the best policy in public accouting,

my 2 years of public accouting exp taught me this.

Try some of these companies in NE, Anchin Block, Berdon LLP, J H Chon, if ur GPA

is better than 3.5, try all big 4 as well.

Anthony15, your suggestions are very valuable. Thank you for taking your time and providing me such a thorough recommendations. I think I should be qualified in every states to get the CPA license because I have an MBA from Nepal and did my MBA from here in the US too with great GPA almost 4.

The problems I have encountered about my getting into the accounting firms are that I have several years of working experience (in accounting) in Nepal and after graduating from MBA program in the US, I worked as a Business Analyst for about 1 and half year here with Indian consulting firm. I think they find me unfit for the entry level position which I am willing to do anyway. OR when the prospective employers see my resume they see it as if I am an IT guy now. I know I am not into IT except for the fact that I had to accept it when I did not get any opportunity in accounting field then when I graduated. That is why I needed a CPA (or firm) who understands why I want to be in accounting again. I will try with the accounting firms you have mentioned.

SickNTired: I know what you mean. There are still very many good peoples out there. It is just a matter of luck whether you get to know those individuals.

Anthony15 why do you say Delaware to take the CPA is it easy there to get the certification. I though the test was uniform around the states, the only difference is the requirement.

Elixir, ur academic achievement is impressive and it doesn't hurt to put ur IT background on ur resume, infact people do MBA to change their career , u can explain this to them. I suggest you to apply to big 4, E&Y, KPMG, Deloitte, PWC,  they are looking for people who has MBA these days.  I think they have hiring freeze right now but apply in late augest to first week of september , that is when they hire people most for entry level. Email me once ur done with ur CPA exams, I'll help to pass ur resume to big 4 recruiter.

americanboy-Delaware has the least criteria out of all states for CPA certificaion, even though the exams are uniform. U only need associate degree to sit for exam in delaware, it might have changed just check with them. go to www.beckercpa.com and find out the requirements.

Americanboy, passing the CPA examination does not automatically give you the CPA license to practice. After meeting the educational requirement, you can sit for the CPA exams. To get the license, you not only need to pass the exams but also need to meet the work experience requirement as prescribed by the Accountancy Board of your state. Although these work experience and educational requirements can be slightly different from state to state, one pretty much needs to get the work experience to get the license.

Anthony, thanks for your suggesitons. I was actually planning to do the same. However, I wanted to make sure that I get a job if those tools don't work for me. I am planning to do my own practice if I get the license. If I get a permanent job, that is okay too. Let's see how it goes.

Thanks for your help.

Hey  Exlir, I am in a similar situation.  I have already passed the CPA
exams and searching for CPA firms so that I can fufill the experience requirement. I haven't had any luck yet
and if nothing works out I will be looking for volunteer opportunities. If anyone can help me find a  firm that would be very helpful. I am working on my Masters degree and currently on 130 credits.

Given that you have completed MBA and hence the 150 hrs. requirement, you can probably try Massachusetts' certificate, it is not the full license but nonetheless you'll have a CPA certificate to start with. My understanding on Delaware certificate is that you still need to show work experience but I'll check with them tomorrow.

Ali_Ali, I thought the educational 150 credit requirement is to sit for the CPA exams. After passing the exams, you just need the experience since you would not be allowed to sit for the exam if you do not meet the educational requirement. However, I do know that some states allow you to sit for the first exam even if you do not meet the 150 credit requirement but you have to meet that requirement within one month of taking the first exam or so. There are small differences on these requirement but all states pretty much require more or less the same thing.

Are you saying that MA does not require work experience for the CPA license? I am more concerned to get my attest experience which allows me to have unqualified license.

MA has two tiered system: first is CPA certificate and the second is the CPA license. Certificate is restrictive as you cannot perform auditing and attestation services. They'll give you the certificate if you pass the exams and meet the educational requirements but in order to get the full license you need to fulfill the experience requirements. With the certificate, you can at least call yourself CPA in the resume instead of putting 'have passed the CPA exams.'

Looks like there are not very many Nepalese CPAs in the US or they don't visit sajha.

What might be the case guys?
