i do not think there is any way to unlock the iphone 3g with firmware 3.1 all we could unlock in this time is just the 3.0 version.

I haven't used the Firmware to unlock i-phone 4 from network lock...I have used the Remote I-Phone unlock service from here Superunlockcodes.com
and unlocked it from network lock.........................It's simple method.
