I'm just finishing up my Masters in Statistics from an average university in the Midwest. I've been hearing that the demand for statisticians and SAS programmers is fairly high at the moment. I was wondering if anyone here at Sajha would be able to recommend me some good consultants or recruiters that hire Statisticians and/or SAS programmers. I'm graduating in two months and I need to get the ball rolling here as far as future employment is concerned. Please HELP!

PS: I have Base as well as Advanced certification is SAS programming.

Nope,

The ones who take stats masters are all white firms and they dont need any internationals. Dhoti consultancies just dont care as long as as you can do stats and unix and some database sql's.

Create a resume with some experience in it and make sure you have enough knowledge to back that up... experience you can put in college projects as well... create profile in different sites like dice.com, careerbuilder.com and you should get calls and emails from recruitors... but make sure you have a good resume with some experience that is relevant to what is required in such jobs... that should help u to get into the interview and never underestimate yourself... we just need opportunity otherwise we are not that far back from those Indian IT guys... Good Luck brother.

I get the point that some experience is required. I did do a prolonged internship but there I didn't have to use much SAS besides just basic operations. I don't know if I should consider that real experience because any dummy could do it. I busted my balls studying for the Advanced certification too. I think I am good at it.

Question: Does a higher level of certification make up for less experience?
How do I add on my resume to make it more attractive? Can I lie about my GPA and stuff too?or do they check that too?

Man put some experience... if u have to lie, lie as long as u have knowledge, but make sure you have reference ready and also that you have applied in a company where they don't do extensive background check... many, most private companies do not care as long as you know what you have put in as experience... and of course higher certification helps, but the companies likes to hear that the person interviewed has knowledge and has experience what they are looking... in interview if you can talk about work, project and situation that should be enough, you don't have to describe anything in theoretically.... Good luck brother! Make sure you tailor your resume as per the openings and make sure you know what you are talking about.... just give description of certain process is not enough... you should have knowledge and preparation to tell something like this... yeah we had this process in this project in thsi company ... the client wanted this ... I worked on this and did this .... have some issues covered as they will ask what issues u faced in that particular project and ... GPA and such it totally depends on the company you are applying.. most company don't... I had applied in Northrop Grumman... all they did was they checked with University if I did go there... they used Acxiom to do the background check... other private companies don't care about that... Why even put GPA in Resume.. u really don't have to unless they ask for it.

Yes only Citizens for most of their jobs... and I am not suggesting him to apply to NG just citing him example... but NG has positions for non-citizens as well probably in other coutries... I also think that there must be many openings for GC if it is not a Govt Contract...

SAS is used by many pharmaceutical, insurance and banking industries in pricing area.  I’ll try applying through the company career page directly.
