ok here is the thing....my visa will expire on january 2011 and i was thinking to visit nepal on august 2010. i know, legally, i can go outside united states and come back within my visa period.
but  i have been hearing from a lot of people  that while coming back , immigration might stop you since your visa is going to be expired or some other bullshit reason.
anybody has any idea if one can be returned from port of entry even if he has valid visa and is in status.

No, it is just non-sense, people can come and go upto visa period, probably you guys had known that people travel in different countries in short term visa, even for 1 month, so it is just hoax, my friend had travelled and came back.

Hoax, if you believe me. So far, you have received good advice above. But you will definitely get "guffs" if you don't check the history of people sharing view in this thread or sajha.

If you are in F-1 , don't forget to get you I-20 signed from your IES Advisor!!

Although they won't stop you from entering the US, they can harass you by asking tons of questions. Believe me I have been there and it was not a wise decision in my part to travel in F1 visa that was expiring in less than 6 months.

If you have valid I-20 and in good standing, they will let u enter even if you have 1 day left in your visa. Visa is merely to enter the country..Offcourse the cross questions, not harrasment,  will always be there..

I am taking this to exterme, don't want it the last day to comeback though..
