try dell.com, which in my view is better quality. they do have inspirons starting around $400.

I think this one is the best bet for around 600 dollors.... Best thing about this one is, memory is expandable up to 8 GB and the Battery life is always better on SONY laptops.........

dealsnews.com dealsucker.com deals2buy.com sometimes, woot.com and sellout.woot.com offer one day sale on laptops.... n if u are not into gaming or moving watching n stuff... get a NETBOOK....$200-$250....u get nice ones...
research for a coupla days ... try to find deal websites rather than going to individual company website... i bought a HP Pavillion entertainment PC 16' 2.0 core duo...4 gb..320 gbHD.. for $400 couple of months back from officemax.com

Holiday season is near and price may go down other than plane ticket.
If not in hurry, you may find a good deal. Once I saw an ad from Wal-mart 2 gb memory and 160 gb hard drive for 298?
