if you live in US then it's a lot cheaper to buy here and send it there. Normally laptops, flat screen TVs prices are more than three times in Kathmandu. This is because of the high custom duty, transportation cost, profit margin, etc the seller will charge. so even if you feel like you got a good deal in a laptop then there is a high probability that the laptop is several years old and out of date with the current technology. also you don't get what's just released in the west right away. even if you do get it then again the price will be very steep. personally I wanted to buy a big sony LCD tv in kathmandu, but the price at the sony's own authorized dealer in Kathmandu was so high that I made up my mind just to buy a good quality projector for a lot less price in the US. The reason being you can just easily carry a project with you. however if money is not a concern for you then there are bunch of computer stores in Newroad area which sells laptops. just walk into some they are concentrated in one area. also it's normal to negotiate price in kathmandu. they don't have like set tag price there. Still even after the whole negotiation thing, you will be spending a lot more in laptops compared what you would pay overseas. One of the main reasons being the constants SALE events here.

It's cheaper to buy laptops in USA or UK. But if you specially want to buy in Nepal there are some good shops in Kathmandu. One is at ground floor of sherpa mall. Others are at major departments stores like world trade, forgot name (the one at Kamal pokhari). But seriously it is much cheaper and of good quality to buy in USA or UK. Hope this helps.

We started harilo.com 6 months ago and we've been getting a lot of good feedback from Nepalis buying laptops from us to send to KTM. You can get an idea of prices for laptops at http://harilo.com/deals?hsn=8471.30.00. We're pretty cheap since there is no customs duty for computers in Nepal and we only charge for shipping. Indidividual Nepalis buy from us but we also supply to various resellers on New Road and computer bazaar as well as local businesses, embassies, and NGOs who want cheap laptops.
