Could someone enlighten me on the issue regarding bringing your spouse from Nepal after marriage? Some say that its better to wait till one's citizenship while others say otherwise...

It is easy to bring after becoming citizen, might takes (5-9 months nowadays). But you can start with filing I-130 for her/him now, i heard some of them have got approved early. But it goes to Nepal embassy which calls turn wise so will take some time again. Later if it happens, and u get your citizenship then can upgrade the case asap.
This is what i know.

Regards.

Birodh:
We can answer your query from different angle but give us the real situation, then one line will be suffice.  I do not know where to start to answer you, you question is vague.

Syanjali, it isn't vague at all. If you were to read my topic title, it basically tells you that a Green Card holder is seeking some info on the chances of being able to bring his/her spouse while as a Perm. Resident.

Thanks for the link Santoshgiri but the blog is even more confusing. Anybody else has personal experiences?

Here's my personal story.........If you file for your spouse when u r only a green card holder, it takes at least 3 years to get him/her to US. If you file for ur spouse after you get your citizenship, it only takes 5-6 months. So you do the math and figure out which option is better.........Hope that helps........Peace

So my plans of getting married just took a massive jolt.. hmm

What if she were already in the U.S. as a F-1 student? How long will it take for her status to get changed?

So, you are a green-card holder and thinking of getting married? Even you marry a f-1 student, I am not sure she can change her status just because she is in US. Please check with Immigration lawyer. If I were you, will marry any F-1 status girl and keep her status until I get citizenship.

The only sad part is, I still have 3.5 more years before I can apply for Citizenship. To make things worse for myself, I don't intend on applying for Citizenship. Afno matribhumi visit garna ni koi visa liyera jancha!

You will be going to be a life long  Bachelor  like Mr. Bhattrai.

But , by the time you will be eligible for Citizenship, we may have dual
citizenship in Nepal.
