Hey guys,
like every other nepali student in texas i am attending a community college. a year ago i messed up a semester and achieved the remarkable feat of getting 3 F's in a single semester. i didnt transfer out of that community college and the following semester retook the same courses and got good grades in them. now my question is, im transferring to a university and i was wondering if the university wwill take into account the F's that i got when calculating my cumulative GPA or will they consider the better grade that i got in the same course and not use the F's for calculating the GPA. some people say that they do some say they don't. im totally stressed out because of that. Some say that if u took the same course without transferring out of the institution where u got it from then it should be ok. but others say something else. im just getting freaked out because of all this.
good responses will be highly appreciated. Thank you
and how to write in nepali font on sajha??

When you transfer to University, your previous GPA does not get transferred. Only your number of credits will be transferred. And they will take better grades into account while you transfer credis. The only thing that sucks is that you will have 3 Fs in the transcript of community college all your life. Hope this helps.

so for example i got an F in a certain subject and then the next semester even if i retook the subject and got an A on it when im transferring to a university they will use both the F and A while calculating the GPA? many people have told me that if you are have not transferred out of that community college where u giot the bad grade from and then retake the same course then it will be fine i.e. the F will not be considered but the better grade will be taken. i dont know...
one more thing...if i get an associates degree then do i get any advantage like a scholarship or anything when i transfer to a university?
can someone elaborate?
Thanks

guru It depends on the University you transfering to. Some take the average of two (ist grade and second) and some take the better grade. I cannot tell you about other but if you are transfering to UTA (since u are in Texas ) then they will calculate better grade. Just ask the University you transfering to.

bhakte dai,
Do u know if UH downtown takes better grade or average your grades? And do you know if they provide scholarships if you have had 4.0 in your recent two semesters? I had horrible semesters while at university and a semester in community college. But i am doing good recently. So, if you know any university in texas for hotel mgmt or culinary arts providing scholarships, please let me know, thank you.

hey catch me bro, i did look at the link u posted but that link was for texas state university of san marcos..does the same rules apply to universities like UTA or UTD or even UNT..i know for a fact that UNT will take all the grades into account when deriving our GPA..well the only thing they're concerned about is how to chuitiya banaing international student by taking all our hard earned Gas station money. neways even i was thinking like if i have taken the same course at the same college two times then why would the university im trying to transfer take into account two grades from a same course...well if they dont take the F's then im all set to transfer with a good GPA and good scholarship otherwise im doomed at this freaking community college... @sabkosathi: will call the guys at the university...thanks for the suggestion.

Hey Guru bro, Who said they take into account everything at UNT? I go to UNT....they only take the better grades coz. I had similar situation like u..........as Bhakte dai said, it really depends upon the university u transferring to......I think UTD takes both the grades.........UTA and UNT take betta grades........I do not kno bout others.........if I was u, I would call the university I m transferring to and ask them........there is nothin to get freaked out at all............gud luck.............

check it out guys, i got it from DCCCD website. It depends on which texa s university you transfer how Repeated Courses Transfer for Admission Credit |
| | |
If you take a course more than once and transfer the credit, some universities and colleges may treat your credits and/or grades differently than others. Learn more about some of the policies at Texas public universities. Use only the "last grade" • Texas A & M - Commerce University (Formerly East Texas State University) • Southwest Texas State University • University of North Texas | Use the "best grade" • Texas Woman's University • Stephen F. Austin State University • Sam Houston State University
| Hrs. | Grade | Pts. | 3 | F | 0 | 3 | B | 9 | 3Hrs. | | 9 Pts. | | 3.0 GPA | |
| Hrs. | Grade | Pts. | 3 | F | 0 | 3 | B | 9 | 3 | C | 6 | 3 Hrs. | | 9 Pts. | | 3.0 GPA | |
| #All grades and hours for a repeated course are included in the admission grade point average, but transfer credit for the course may be counted in the total number of transferable hours only once. • Texas A & M University • Texas Tech University • University of Texas at Arlington • University of Texas at Austin | Previous hours and points are not counted for first repeat. All subsequent hours and points will be used in calculating GPA. • University of Texas at Dallas
| Hrs. | Grade | Pts. | 3 | F | 0 | 3 | B | 9 | 3 | C | 6 | 9 Hrs. | | 15 Pts. | | 1.6 GPA | |
| Hrs. | Grade | Pts. | 3 | F | 0 | 3 | B | 9 | 3 | C | 6 | 6 Hrs. | | 15 Pts. | | 2.5 GPA | |
|
# For admissions purposes, a student's transfer grade point average is determined by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the number of semester hours for which a grade other than withdrawn passing is received.
* At some universities, the overall GPA that includes transfer and grades earned at the university calculates into graduation with honors.
Transfer GPA is used only for admissions requirements. |
